Sunil Gavaskar was dismissed by the first ball of a test match against England at Birmingham in 1974. He was out caught by wicket keeper Alan Knott of Geoff Arnold. The umpire WE Alley of England was making his test debut and gave the decision off the very first ball of his umpiring career
