Mantri KPL 2010 Auction

2010 Mantri KPL Season 2 Auction took place on 19.08.10 at the KSCA , where as many as 43 Karnataka players were traded across the eight KPL franchaisiees. With a mere seven weeks to go, all the eight franchisees utilized distinct strategies to pick up the players that formed a tactical fit for the playing teams.

With the Mantri KPL taking place in Bangalore, Manipal and Hubli this year , the tournments are gaining much enthusiasm in cricketing in the state .

In the auction for Twenty20 tournament, starting in Bangalore next month , CK Akshay emerged the costliest player in the Karnataka Premier League Season 2, with a closing bid of Rs.45,000 from Belagavi Panthers.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Brijesh Patel. Hon Secterary, KSCA said ““This was a very strategic auction with each franchisee knowing exactly what they wanted in terms of talent to strengthen their team. The enthusiasm and interest displayed by players from all the districts of Karnataka, to participate in the second season of the league has been truly overwhelming. Clearly the Mantri KPL has set new standards in helping uncover and hone some exciting new talent, that have gone on to gain national and international recognition,. We are extremely happy with the interest the league has garnered and look forward to the action pack cricketing as the teams have chosen their key players for season 2.”

The highlight of the auction was CK Akshay (right hand batsman and off-spinner), whose bid started with Rs.10,000 with a tough fight between Mysore Maharajas and Belagavi Panthers. The bid was finally won by Belagavi Panthers for Rs. 45,000. The second highest bid taker was Malnad Gladiators for SK Moinuddin (left arm spinner) for Rs. 40,000. Another sought after player was DC Rajesh (right hand batsman and right arm medium) who finally went under the hammer to Shamanur Davengere Diamonds for Rs.30,000. Other 6 players were bought at Rs. 10,000 by the franchisees.

The auction was telecasted live on Udaya TV, the official television partners for Mantri KPL season 2.

About Karnataka State Cricket Association

The Karnataka State Cricket Association (formerly the Mysore Cricket Association) is committed to develop Karnataka as the premier cricketing state in the country. It aims to take the game to mofussil areas of the state for development at the grassroots level and to continuously promote the welfare of players.

It was founded during the year 1933-34 and was affiliated to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). The Association made steady progress from 1934 to 1959 when the Silver Jubilee was celebrated to coincide with the visit of the Australian team to Bangalore to play against the combined Universities XI.

In the late sixties the Association acquired its own cricket ground and the stadium now known as the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium came into being. Bangalore became a Test centre in 1974 and several memorable tests and one day games including the 1996 World Cup quarter-finals have been played at this venue


The Karnataka State Cricket Association has grown from strength to strength and today, is one of the best-organized State Cricket Associations in the country.
