Match No 6 : Bangalore Brigadiers {Urban} vs Belgavi Panthers at Bangalore on 18.09.10 : Belgavi Panthers won by one run

It was any body’s game with the match going to the wire, but the team which had nerves in a tense finish won the game. Full credit must go to Belgavi Panthers for defending the total of 131 runs and winning the game by a whisker.

Batting first Belgavi Panthers scored 131 for 8 in its 20 overs. They had lost their seven wickets for 88 runs and were in a none too comfortable position, but a whirlwind stand of 43 runs for the eighth wicket between B Naveen and S Dhananjaya saw them to the total of 131 which in the end became a match winning total.

S Hoover {33 with 3 fours and 2 sixes}, B Naveen {22 not out with 1 four and a six} and S Dhananjaya {28 not out with one four and two sixes} were the mainstay of Panther’s innings.

S Hoover was concerned with a 20 run stand with BMV Uthappa for the fifth wicket and also ensured a 33 run stand with B Naveen for the seventh wicket.

DN Sagar {1 for 26}, Z Farooqi {2 for 19}, MV Prasad {1 for 36} and M Vinod {2 for 19} shared the six wickets that fell to bowlers. There were two run outs in Panther’s innings.

Bangalore Brigadiers started their innings confidently through S Ibrez and KL Rahul who added 26 runs for the first wicket. KL Rahul and N Shekawat added 17 runs for the second wicket. They lost four more wickets in a hurry and the score board read a dismal 76 for the loss of six wickets.

Seventh wicket stand between NV Prasad and M Vinod produced 13 runs, eighth wicket stand between M Vinod and DN Sagar yielded 25 runs and an unfinished stand of 16 runs for the ninth wicket took the scored to 130 for eight.

M Vinod was the top scorer in Brigadiers’ innings with 29 runs. His runs came in a stay of 29 minutes at the crease and he faced 15 deliveries. He hit one four and three sixes.

One run separated the victors and the vanquished. B Naveen captured four for 20 runs and was the pick of the Belgavi bowlers. Zeeshan Ali was a good foil to him with a bag of 3 for 20.
