Match No 9: Bangalore Brigadiers vs Bangalore Provident {Rural} at Bangalore on 19.09.10: Bangalore Provident won by seven wickets

Bangalore Provident registered its first win in this edition when they beat Bangalore Brigadiers by seven wickets.

Bangalore Brigadiers has a very comfortable start to their innings as their first wicket partnership realized 85 runs. They lost their way in the middle and slumped to 108 for 5 – losing four wickets for the addition of 23 runs. KL Rahul was the first to leave at 85, Syed Ibrez followed him soon at 95, Steve Lazarus departed at 105. M Vinod left at 107 and skipper Deepak Chowgule who had a bad run in the series left at 108. Spinners Anirudh Joshi and skipper Anand Katti were responsible for this collapse with some accrurate bowling. Though the score reached 141 for 9, Brigadiers had lost the tempo due to the collapse of the middle order. They were unable to capitalize on the brilliant start given by their openers. Vinu Prasad’s late order flourish with 26 runs enabled them to reach 141. NC Aiyappa’s two wickets and two run outs restricted Brigadiers to post a total beyond 141.

Syed Ibrez’s 42 came of 45 balls and was studded with 2 four and six. KL Rahul’s 34 came of 32 delivers and contained four hits to the fence. Vinu Prasad’s cameo of 26 came in just seven balls with one boundary and three sixes.

NC Aiyappa {2 for 21} Anirudh Joshi {2 for 19} and Anand Katti {3 for 41} shared the seven wickets out of nine wickets that fell in Brigadier’s innings.

Former Karnataka stumper VS Thilak Naidu has other plans for Providents. He was associated in a 93 run stand with his reliable partner MK Manjunath. Provident capitalized on this opening stand and cruised to a seven wickets victory. Manjunath was the first to leave at 93, Amit Verma left at 103 and Anirudh Joshi left at 141. Thilak Naidu stood firm and scored 65 not out. He also forged a 37 runs partnership for the third wicket with Anirudh Joshi who made 25.

MK Manjunath’s 26 runs came of 42 balls in a stay of 50 minutes at the crease. He hit two fours. VS Thilak Naidu’s 65 not out contained nine fours. He faced 53 balls and occupied the crease for 85 minutes. Anirudh Joshi scored his 25 in 14 balls and stayed at the crease for 22 minutes.

M Vinodh {1 for 24} and Nikhil Kashyap {2 for 11} shared the spoils for Brigadiers
