Mangalore United posted 201 for 3 in 20.0 overs, the highest team total in the second edition of KPL. Its openers – skippers YK Sabharwal and B Chipli were concerned in an opening stand of 139 runs. Sabharwal scored 78 in just 44 balls containing seven fours and five sixes, while B Chipli’s 70 came in 52 balls with six fours and three sixes. R Jonathan {25} and UB Patel {20 not out} added 43 runs for the third wicket. R Jonathan fell at 200 with one ball to go in the innings. P Patil was the successful bowler with a bag of 2 for 40. DC Rajesh captured 1 for 40. Each of the five bowlers who chanced their arms leaked 30 plus runs – SB Joshi {none for 34}, DC Rajesh {1 for 40}, BN Bharath {none for 32}, P Patil {2 for 48} and SN Raju {none for 30}.
In its chase, Diamonds faltered against a disciplined attack of Mangalore bowlers. Skipper SB Joshi with his 51 not out shone amidst the ruins. As many as six batsmen were dismissed within twenty and there were no useful partnerships in Diamonds’ innings. They were dismissed all out in this game for 157 in 19.1 overs. SB Joshi’s face saving 51 not out came in 38 balls with three fours and three sixes. UB Patel {2 for 37} and Aleem {2 for 37} shared the bowling honours for Mangalore
