Chennai Super Kings won the Champions League T20 2010 by beating Warriors by eight wickets at Johannesburg on 26.09.10.

Chennai Super Kings playing for the first time in the tournament by virtue of winning the second IPL, had both batting and bowling records to its credit on its way to its win CLT20 2010

It had eight occasions of batsmen scoring fifties – most by any team in the tournament. The batsmen who made CSK to own this record are listed below

CSK became the fifth team in the tournament to win five games. Others are NSW, Tri & Tob and Victoria

M Muralitharan returned with figures of 4.0-0-16-3 in this game providing the 46th occasion of a bowler capturing three or more wickets in the tournament. His bowling figures is one of the 17 occasions of a bowler, conceding 20 and less than 20 runs and capture three or more wickets in the tournament.

M Muralitharan became the third CSK bowler to capture three or more wickets conceding 20 and less than 20 runs. Others are – 4 for 23 by R Ashwin vs Wayamba at Centurion on 15.09.10 and 3 for 20 by L Balaji vs Central Districts at Durban on 11.09.10

M Vijay became the third batsman in the tournament to score three fifties after M Klinger of South Australia and DJ Jacobs of Warriors. It is interesting to note that all these three batsman have scored fifties while opening the innings for their teams.

MEK Hussey’s 51 not out in this game is his second fifty of the tournament. He had scored 50 against Warriors at Port Elizabeth on 22.09.10. He became the 12th batsman to score fifties on two occasions in the tournament. He also became the fifth opening batsman to perform such a feat.

M Vijay with his 58 in this game earned the distinction of becoming the first batsman to score a fifty in the finals of the CLT20 games. The previous best was B Lee’s 48 for NSW vs Tri & Tob at Hy-RGS on 23.09.10 in the finals of the first edition,

M Vijay ended the tournament with 294 runs aggregate – most by a batsman – in the tournament, He got the better of DJ Jacobs of Warriors who finished the tournament with 286 runs. M Vijay went past DJ Jacobs when he was on 51 during his knock of 58 in this game.


M Vijay hit two boundary fours in this game to have an aggregate of 10 boundary sixes in the tournament. He became the sixth batsman to score ten or more boundary fours in the tournament – KA Pollard {28}, SK Raina {12}, LRPL Taylor {12}, JP Duminy {11}, M Klinger {10} and M Vijay {10}

MEK Hussey {51*} and M Vijay {58} scored fifties in this game providing the 12th occasion of two batsmen scoring fifties in an innings in the tournament. Their feat also provides the fifth occasion of opening batsmen performing such a feat in the tournament.

Match No 21: Bangalore Brigadiers {Urban} vs Mangalore United at Bangalore on 25.09.10: Mangalore United won by 54 runs

Mangalore United posted 135 for 6 in its 20,0 overs after being inserted. Its innings was centered on opening batsman B Chipli who scored 57. He departed at the fall of third wicket the scorecard reading 98. He added 23 runs for the first wicket with YK Sabharwal and 23 runs for the second wicket with Nidhuvan Kumar. B Chipli departed in the 15th over {first delivery} and Mangalore United added 37 runs in 35 balls for the loss of three more wickets to finish at 135 for 6.

B Chipli’s 57 came in 51 balls with four fours and three sixes. He was at the crease for 60 minutes. M Vinod was amongst the wickets by capturing 3 for 24

Brigadiers in its chase faltered and lost wickets in a jiffy. They lost six wickets for 33 runs and never recovered. Two run outs in these six wickets added to its misery. SH Kirmani shone amidst the ruins scoring 24. NA Kashyap {16} and NV Prasad {11} were the other batsmen to reach the double figures.

UB Patel with four for 31 was instrumental in bundling out Brigadiers for 81 – the lowest total in a completed innings – in this edition.

Match No 20: Belgavi Panthers vs Mysore Maharaajas at Bangalore on 25.09.10: Mysore Maharaajas won by four wickets

Put into bat Panthers struggled against a disciplined bowling by Maharaajas bowlers and made a none-too-comfortable 122 for 9 in its 20 overs. Panthers were off to a good start by inform openers J Arun Kumar and KS Ponnappa who put on 40 runs for the first wicket. After the departure of J Arunkumar, wickets fell at regular intervals. None of the Panthers batsmen were able to forge useful partnerships after the fall of the opener J Arunkumar. J Arunkumar {25} and KS Ponnappa {22} are the only two batsmen who scored 20 plus runs.

AB Sagar {2 for 35}, T Muthanna {2 for 17}, AA Kazi {2 for 12} and CS Rahavendra {1 for 19} not only shared the wickets that fell to bowlers but also restricted the Panthers to score freely by sticking to the basics of bowling – line and length.

Maharaajas in its chase had a good opening stand of 51 runs between KB Pawan and HTS Rao. Useful contributions from N Bille {24} ad S Manager {21} hastened Mysore’s victory. S Hoover with his 2 for 19 was the most successful bowler for Panthers

Due to heavy downpour, the match was abandoned. Diamonds, which opted to bat first after winning the toss were 45 for 3 in nine overs at the time when play was abandoned. Both the teams shared a point each. Bangalore Brigadiers earned its first points in this edition

Put into bat, Malnad Gladiators batsmen did not live upto their reputation, with the exception of Sanjay Kumar and threw away the match in a jiffy. It was a continuous parade as wickets fell at regular intervals. Talented batsmen like Ganesh Satish, Kunal Kapoor, RR Bhatkal were dismissed for single digits and their total contribution to the team total was a meager 15.

It was a nightmarish start for Gladiators as they lost half the side for 27. A sixth wicket stand between KC Avinash and Sanaj Kumar worth 30 runs and 23 runs partnership for the seventh wicket between Sanjay Kumar and K Gowtham helped Gladiators to reach 102. This is the lowest completed innings total posted by a team in the second edition of Mantri-KPL. Gladiator became the second team to be dismissed all out in this edition.

Sanjay Kumar’s 36 came in as many balls contained three fours and a six. K Gowtham’s 27 came in 16 balls with two fours and two sixes. NC Aiyappa {2 for 12}, A Jagan {2 for 13}, Rahul R Bhatkal {2 for 23} shone with the leather for Provident

It was an easy chase for Provident as they reached the target for the loss of four wickets. Amit Verma {22}, MK Manjunath {22} and AA Joshi {34 not out} batted well to take their team to a facile six wickets victory. AA Joshi’s essay came in 24 balls with two fours and two sixes. K Gowtham picked up three wickets conceding 19 runs.
