Highlights of Karnataka/Haryana Ranji Trophy match at Rohtak : 17-20th November 2010: Match Drawn

Karnataka, fresh from their inaugural win in the opening fixture against Punjab in the 2010/11 season suffered a set back at the hands of the modest Haryana team and managed just one point, conceding the first innings lead to Haryana.

Karnataka’s first innings contained a solitary 50 by skipper R Vinaykumar, which was his second fifty in 46 matches. He narrowly missed to go past his highest individual score of 51* (vs Punjab at Mysore in 2009/10)

Amit Verma scored 103* in the second innings which is his third century in 13 Ranji Trophy matches. He is the fourth Karnataka bassman to score a century against Haryana. Others are – BP Patel – 157 at Bangalore in 1979-80 : Vijay Bharadwaj – 175 at Bangalore in 1998-99 and RV Uthappa – 108 at Mysore in 2006-07

Hemang Badani, the former Tamilnadu player, playing for Haryana this season top scored with 88 runs with which Haryana obtaind the crucial first innings lead. This was his 41st fifty plus score (inclusive of 9 centuries) in his 66th Ranji Trophy match. This was also his highest individual score for Haryana nosing ahead of the previous best of 79 made against Baroda at Rohtak in November 2010. His career beat in Ranji Trophy is 164 against Hyderbad at Secunderabad in 1996/97.

Joginder Sharma and Sanjay Badhwar, who were the wreckers in chief for Haryana, took 5-66 and 5-56 respectively.

5-66 by Joginder Sharma was his 14th five wicket haul (apart from five ten wicket hauls) in his 44th Ranji Trophy match.

Just for the record, Joginder Sharma had taken 11 wickets and scored 81 runs in his debut Ranji Trophy match against Madhya Pradesh at Rohtak in 2002/03.

Joginder Sharma is best remembered as the bowler who dismissed Misbah ul Haq in the final of the inaugural World Cup Twenty-20. Ironically, he has never appeared for India again.

5-56 by Sanjay Badhwar was his fifth five wicket haul in 24 Ranji Trophy matches.

After Rajinder Goel had taken 6/55 in the first ever Ranji match between Haryana and Karnataka in 1979/80, no ohter bowler from Haryana had captured five wickets in an innings against Karnataka, till Joginder Sharma and Sanjay Badhwar captured five wickets in an innings. This is the first time that two bowlers have shared ten wickets in an an innings in the match for Haryana against Karnataka.

The feat of sharing five wickets equally in an innings by Joginder and Badhwar, provides the 16th occasion of bolwers sharing the ten wickets equally in an innings.

KB Pawan scored his second fifty plus score this season brining his tally of 50 plus scores to 12 inclusive of four centuries in 25 Ranji Trophy matches.

Manish Pandey made his first fifty this season. This was his seventh fifty (excluding four hundreds) in his 16th Ranji Trophy match.

Nitin Saini’s 64 was his fifth 50 plus score (including one century) in 16 Ranji Trophy matches. Sunny Singh’s 53 was his first fifty in five innings in 20010/11 and overall his 18th fifty plus score (including 9 centuries) in 37 Ranji Trophy matches.

SB Joshi scored exactly 50 which brought up his 50 plus scores tally to 24 including four centuries. SB Joshi completed 4000 runs in Ranji Trophy when on 35 during his innings of 50 in the second innings. This was his 111th Ranji Trophy match and 156th innings.

By completing 4000 runs, SB Joshi became the ninth Karnataka batsman to score 4000 plus runs in Ranji Trophy. SB Joshi earned the distinction of becoming the only all rounder in Ranji Trophy history to score 4000 runs and take 450 wickets. At the end of this match, his run aggregate stood at 4015 runs and wicket aggregate stood at 451.

SB Joshi captured his 450th wicket when he had Manav Sharma caught by Robin Uthappa. R Goel {637} and S Venkataraghavan {530} are the two bowlers who have aggregated more wickets than SB Joshi in Ranji Trophy

At the end of the Haryana match, Joshi has scored 4015 runs and taken 451 wickets in 111 matches. Break up for Joshi’s 4015 runs read thus
