SR Tendulkar and ST Jayasuriya have played 444 games. SR Tendulkar’s appearance for India in the inaugural game against Bangladesh at Dhaka on 19.02.01 would be his 445th one day game and with it he would earn the distinction of becoming the most capped cricketer in the history of one day gmaes
SR Tendulkar would become the second cricketer to appear in six world cups. Javed Miandad holds the record of playing six world Cups. He represented Pakistan in 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, 1992 and 1996 world Cups. SR Tendulkar of India has played in five world Cups – 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2007.
Australia and New Zealand are the only team to play 60 plus games in the world Cup. Australis has played 69 games while New Zealand has played 62 games. Prior to the start to this world Cup, England {59}, India {58}, Sri Lanka {57}, West Indies {57} and Pakistan have played 50 plus games. They would join Australia and New Zealand in the ensuing world Cup as they would be playing 60 plus games at the end of the world Cup
RT Ponting and GD McGrath have played 39 world Cup games prior to the start of the ensuing world Cup. RT Ponting needs one more game to play 40 games and he would become the first cricketer to play 40 plus games.
SR Tendulkar has played 36 world cup games prior to the start of the ensuing world Cup. He requires four more games to become the second cricketer to appear in 40 plus world Cup games
ST Jayasuriya holds the record for most innings played by a batsman in the world Cup. He has played 37 innings. RT Ponting has played 36 innings and SR Tendulkar has played 35 innings. They require one innings and two innings respectively to equal ST Jayasuriya’s record. At the end of the world cup either RT Ponting or SR Tendulkar would hold the record for most innings played in the world Cup depending upon which cricketer plays most innings in the ensuing world Cup
JH Kallis who has an aggregate of 923 world cup runs require 77 runs for his 1000 runs. He would then become the 13th batsman in the world Cup who have totalled 1000 plus runs. Other twelve batsmen are- SR Tendulkar, RT Ponting, BC Lara, ST Jayasuriya, AC Gilchrist, Javed Miandad, SP Fleming, HH Gibbs, PA de Silva, IVA Richards, SC Ganguly and ME Waugh. M Muralitharan who has an aggregate of 53 world cup wickets prior to the start of the ensuing world cup requires three more wickets to overhaul the tally of 55 wickets by Wasim Akram. If he gets it he would be in the second spot among the bowlers who have taken 50 plus
wickets in the world cup. The other two are – GD McGrath {71} and Wasim Akram {55}
DL Vettori who has an aggregate of 18 wickets requires two more wickets for his 20 wickets. If he gets there, he would become the the seventh left arm bowler to total 20 plus wickets in the world cup. Others are – Wasim Akram, WPUJC Vaas, GB Hogg, ST Jayasuriya, Zaheer Khan and GI Allott. DL Vettori would be the third left arm spinner to perform the feat after GB Hogg and ST Jayasuriya.
A Nehra who has an aggregate of 15 wickets require five more wickets for his 20 wickets. If he gets there, he would become he would become the the eighth left arm bowler to total 20 plus wickets in the world cup. Others are – Wasim Akram, WPUJC Vaas, GB Hogg, ST Jayasuriya, Zaheer Khan and GI Allott. DPMD Jayawardene who has an aggregate of 9027 one day runs require 258 runs to overhaul PA de Silva’s 9284 runs. If he gets them, he would then become Sri Lanka’s highest run getter in One day games.
JH Kallis who has an aggregate of 11002 one day runs requires 362 more runs to overhaul SC Ganguly’s 11363 runs to occupy the fifth place amongst the most run getters in one day games.
RT Ponting who has an aggregate of 13082 one day runs requires 347 more runs to overhaul ST Jayasuriya’s 13428 runs to occupy the second place amongst the most run getters in one day games.
RT Ponting who has scored 29 one day hundreds requires one more hundred for his 30th hundred to become the second batsman to score 30 or more hundreds in one day games after SR Tendulkar who has 46 hundreds to his credit prior to the start of this world cup.
JH Kallos who has scored 17 one day hundreds requires three more hundreds for his 20th hundred. If he gets them, he would become the seventh batsman in one day games to score 20 or more hundreds. Others are – SR Tendulkar, RT Ponting, ST Jayasuriya, SC Ganguly, HH Gibbs and Saeed Anwar.
Yuvraj Singh who has 45 one day half centuries to his credit requires five more half centuries for his 50 half centuries. If he gets them, he would then become the 21st batsman in the history of one day game to score 50 plus half centuries.
RT Ponting who has scored 6894 one day runs as captain need 106 runs more for 7000 runs. If he gets it he would then become the first captain in one day games to total 7000 plus runs.
GC Smith who has won 87 games as captain requires three more games for winning 90 games. He would then become the sixth captain the in the history of one day games to win 90 plus games. Others who have won 90 plus game prior to the start of this world cup are – RT Ponting {160}: AR Border {107}: WJ Cronje {99}: SP Fleming {98} and M Azharuddin {90}
MS Dhoni who has led India in 93 one day games needs seven more games to his 100th game as captain. Should he get there, he would then become 15th captain in the history of one day games to lead a team on 100 or more occasions. He would become the third Indian captain to earn the distinction after M Azharuddin {174} and SC Ganguly {147}

It is interesting to note that out of the 14 participating teams only two teams have retained their captains who have lead them in the previous edition {2007} of the world cup.

Prior to the start of the world cup, 81 captains have led various teams in the earlier world cup editions. At the end of 2011 edition, the captains who have led various teams would be 93.
As the inaugural game of this edition would be between Bangladesh and India at Dhaka on 19.02.11, both the teams will be led by new captains. Bangladesh would be led by Shakib Al Hasan while India will be led by MS Dhoni. They would become the 82nd and 83rd captains to lead a team in the world cup
India will be led by MS Dhoni who also keeps wickets, Canada will be led by A Bagai and Sri Lanka will be led by KC Sangakkara who also keeps wickets in this edition. MS Dhoni, A Bagai and KC Sangakkara would become the seventh, eighth and ninth wicket keeper captains to lead a team in
the world cup. Others are – BM Mauricette of Canada, AJ Stewart of England, LK Germon of New Zealand, A Flower of Zimbabwe, Khaled Mashud of Bangladesh and J Smits of Netherlands.

Australia has posted 299 three figure stands and need one more for 300 three figure partnerships. If it posts one more three figure stand, they would become the second team in the annals of one day games to post 300 three figure stands.
