India-Netherlands fixture at Paarl on 12.02.03 witnessed de Leede capture 4 for 35 for Netherlands,Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath captured 4 for 30 and 4 for 32 respectively for India, providing the second instance of rival bowlers capturing four wickets in which two bowlers were from one side. The first instance was at Old Trafford on 16.06.99 between South Africa and Australia when two South Afrcian bowlers – SM Pollock and A Donald captured 5 for 36 and 4 for 32 respectively and SK Warne came up with 4 for 29. Netherland’s opening batsmen – JF Kloppenburg failed to open his account while the other opener DLS van Bunge came up with 62, providing the third instance of openers scoring zero and fifty in the World Cup. As on date there are five such instances.

Canada-Sri Lanka fixture at Paarl on 19.02.03 witnessed another unique instane in the World Cap. Perhaps it may be the first of its kind in One day Internationals also. RJ van Vuuren of Namibia captured five for 43 in the game against England at Port Elizabeth on 19.02.03. JM Davison of Canada registered the fastest hundred in the World Cup when he made 111 against West Indies at Centurion on 23.03.03. His 111 was made in 98 minutes in 76 balls with the help of eight fours and six sixes. Davison 111 provides the third instance of a “Nelson” in World Cup games. Davison’s 111 could not clinch a win for Canada providing the 13th instance of a batsman’s hundred going in vain in World Cup

Tendulkar and Ganguly registered hundreds against Namibia at Pietermaritzburg on 23.02.03. Tendulkar scored 152 and Ganguly registered 112 not out in this game providing the fourth instance of two batsmen registering hundreds for the same team in the World Cup. Namibia were all out for 130. This total was less than the individual score of 152 by Sachin Tendulkar. This instance provides the fifth instance of a batsman’s individual score greater than the opponent team’s total in World Cup. As on date there are seven such instances in the World Cup. Tendulkar registered his fourth World Cup hundred while making 152 and emulated Mark Waugh of Australia who has also scored four hundreds in the World Cup. Yuvaraj Singh returned with bowling figures of four for six providing the third instance of a bowler capturing four wickets conceding single digit runs in the World Cup. Australia-Kenya match at Potchefstroom on 27.02.03 was won by Australia by 256 runs providing the largest victory margin by runs in World Cup. This was the second victory margin by 200 plus runs in the World Cup after the England’s 202 runs triumph over India in the inaugural match on 07.06.75 of the first ever World Cup 1975. In this match Namibia were bundled out for 45 runs. Three Australian batsmen – Hayden {88}, A Symonds {59} and DS Lehmann {50 not out} scored more than Namibia’s total of 45 runs. This match provides the unique instance of three batsman’s individual score which were greater than the team’s total. McGrath registered the World Cup’s best figures of seven for 15 in this match. He also became the second bowler to capture seven wickets in the World Cup. As on date there are three bowlers who have taken seven wickets in the World Cup. McGrath’s figure of seven for 15 represent the most wickets conceding least runs , while WW Davis’s seven for 51 represent the most wickets conceding most runs in the World Cup {Note – 15 and 51 have 1 and 5 opposite to each other}. The three occasions are – 7 for 51 by WW Davis of West Indies vs Australia at Leeds in 1983 : 7 for 15 by GD McGrath of Australia vs Namibia at Potcchefstroom in 2003 and 7 for 20 by AJ Bichel of Australia vs England at Port Elizabth in 2003

Saeed Anwar’s 101 for Pakistan against India at at Centurion on 01.03.03 went in vain as India won the game by six wickets. This instance provides the 14th instance of a batsman’s hundred going in vain in World Cup. Saeed Anwar’s 101 for Pakistan and SR Tendulkar’s 98 for India provides the third instance of rival batsmen registering a ninety and hundred in World Cup. The other two instances are – SR Tendulkar {90} and ME Waugh {126} in the game between India and Australia at Bombay on 27.02.07 and DL Haynes {93*} and Rameez Raja {102*} in the game between West Indies and Pakistan at Melbourne on 23.02.96

Netherland-Namibia fixture at Bloemfontien on 03.03.03 witnessed the fifth instance of two batsmen from the same team registering hundreds in the World Cup. JF Kloppenburg and KJJ van Noortwijk of Netherlands registered 121 and 134 respectvely in this game. JF Kloppnburg shone with the leather also by capturing four wickets conceding 42 runs. He is the only all rounder in the World Cup to register a hundred and take four wickets in the same game. JF Kloppenburg and Adeel Raja returned with identical figures of 4 for 42 in this match providing the first of two instances of two bowlers from the same team returning with identical figures in a match.

The match between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Durban on 03.03.03 ended in a tie on Duckworth Lewis Method. This is the second instance of a tied match in World Cup. The first instance of a tied match was between Australia and South Africa at Birmingham on 17.06.99.

Kenya were dismissed for 104 by West Indies at Kimberley on 04.03.03. Chris Gayle scored 119 for West Indies. This match provides the seventh instance of a batsman’s individual score greater than the opponent team’s total in World Cup.

VC Drakes of West Indies earned the distinction of becoming the third bowler to capture five wickets in two games in the same world cup edition after GJ Gilmour of Australia and ALF de Mel of Sri Lanka. The performance of these three bowlers read as under – GJ Gilmour of Australia – 6 for 14 vs England at Leeds in 1975 and 5 for 48 vs West Indies at Lord’s in 1975 : ALF de Mel of Sri Lanka – 5 for 39 vs Pakistan at Leeds in 1983 and 5 for 32 vs New Zealand at Derby in 1975 and VC Drakes of West Indies – 5 for 44 vs Canada at Centurion in 2003 and 5 for 33 vs Kenya at Kimberley in 2003

Glen McGrath can be added to this list with criteria of two different World Cups as the fourth bowler to capture five plus wickets. McGrath is the other bowler who has taken 5 for 14 against West Indies at Manchester on 13.05.99 in 1999 edition and 7 for 15 against Namibia at Potchefstroom on 27.02.03 in 2003 edition

Adam Gilchrist provides the only 99 of World Cup. He was dismissed run out for 99 against Sri Lanka at Centurion on 07.03.03. With PA de Silva registering 92 for Sri Lanka this game provides the fourth instance of rival batsmen registering nineties in World Cup. Tendulkar’s 97 against Sri Lanka at Johannesburg on 10.03.03 provides the third occasion of his scoring ninety in World Cup. He has the most nineties in the World Cup. The other batsmen who have two nineties in World Cup are Zaheer Abbas of Pakistan , Martin Crowe of New Zealand , RB Richardson of West Indies and PA de Silva of Sri Lanka. MS Atapattu carried the bat through while making 103 not for Sri Lanka against Zimbabwe on 15.03.03 to provide the 11th instance of such a feat in World Cup. Prior to Atapattu’s feat Iswar Maharaj of Canada had earned the distinction of carrying the bat through over allocation when he scored 53 not out against South Africa at East London on 27.02.03.

Ganguly’s 111 against Kenya at Durban on 20.03.03 was his 11th hundred as captain in One day games. It was the then record for most hundreds by a captain in One dayers. He wrested the record from Sanath Jayasuriya who had scored ten hundreds while leading Sri Lanka. As of now RT Ponting of Australia holds the record for most hundreds by a captain. Saurav Ganguly became the third batsman to register four hundreds in World Cup after Mark Waugh of Australia and Sachin Tendulkar of India. Saurav Ganguly with his three hundreds holds the record for most hundreds by a captain in the World Cup. The others who have registered two hundreds are GM Turner of New Zealand and RT Ponting of Australia

Gilchrist’s 57 for Australia against India at Johannesburg on 23.03.03 was his sixth fifty which is a record for most fifties in World Cup. The other wicket keepers to register four fifties including hundreds are D Houghton of Zimbabwe, AJ Stewart of England and K Otieno of Kenya, AC Gilchrist’s fifties are listed below – 63 vs Bangladesh at Chester-le-Street in 1999 : 54 vs Pakistan at Lord’s in 1999 : 61 vs Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in 2003 : 99 vs Sri Lanka at Centurion in 2003 : 67 vs Kenya at Durban in 2003 and 57 vs India at Jo’burg in 2003

Gilchrist with his four fifties in the 2003 World Cup edition joined the elite band of batsmen who have registered four more fifties including hundreds in the same edition of the World Cup. The batsmen who have achieved the feat are ST Tendulkar of India {seven fifties in 2003 editon}, MD Crowe (five fifties in 1992 edition}, Javed Miandad {five fifties in 1992 edition}, Mohd Azharuddin of India {four fifties in 1992 edition}. Adam Gilchrist remains the only wicket keeper batsman to register four fifties in the same edition.

RT Ponting’s 140 not out in this game represents the highest individual innings by a batsman in the finals of the World Cup obliterating IVA Richards’s 138 not out in the finals of 1979 edition between West Indies and England at Lord’s on 22.06.79

RS Dravid became the sixth batsman to be dismissed runout after registering hundred. His 145 remain the highest among the centurions who were run out. He is the second Indian centurion who was run out in the World Cup, the first one being SR Tendulkar who after making 137 against Sri Lanka at Delhi on 26.05.99 was run out. SC Ganguly and RS Dravid were concerned in a 318 runs partnership for the second wicket which remains the only 300 plus partnership in World Cup. Ganguly hit 17 fours and seven sixes in this game – thus amassing 110 runs from the boundaries alone which remains a record for most runs through boundaries in the World Cup. Dravid became the third wicket keeper to register a hundred in the World Cup after DL Houghton {1987} and A Flower {115 not out}. Saeed Anwar of Pakistan became the third batsman to achieve this feat when he scored 103 against Zimbabwe at The Oval on 11.06.79 and 113 not out against New Zealand at Manchester on 17.06.99. RD Jacobs carried his bat through over allocation in the game between West Indies and Australia at Manchester on 30.05.99 while registering 49 not out providing the seventh instance of a batsman carrying the bat through over allocation in World Cup. RD Jacobs is the second batsmen who have carried the bat through in the World Cup without a fifty, the other being SM Gavaskar who had made 36 not out against England at Lord’s on 07.06.75

Ajay Jadeja’s 100 not out in the game between India and Australia at The Oval on 04.06.99 went in vain as Australia won this game by 77 runs, providing the ninth instance of a batsman’s century going in vain in World Cup. This edition witnessed two more such instances. Zimbabwean NC Johnson’s 132 not out against Australia at Lord’s on 09.06.99 went in vain as Australia won the game by 44 runs and South Africa’s HH Gibbs’s 101 against Australia at Leeds on 12.06.99 went in vain as Australia won the game by five wickets.

India won their fixture against Pakistan at Manchester on 08.06.99 by 47 runs. BK Venkatesh Prasad captured five for 27 in this game for India. Prasad became the third Indian bowler to capture five wickets in World Cup. The other two are Kapil Dev and Robin Singh.

Mark Waugh registered his fourth hundred in World Cup when he made 104 in the match between Australia and Zimbabwe at Lord’s 09.06.99. With the Zimbabwe opening batsman NC Johnson also registering a hundred in this game -132 not out – the feat of both the openers registering hundreds was witnessed for the first time in the World Cup.

Saeed Anwar’s 103 for Pakistan and NC Johnson’s 54 for Zimbabwe at The Oval on 11.06.99 provides the seventh instance of rival batsmen registering a fifty and hundred in World Cup.

Saqlain Mushtaq became the second bowler in the World Cup to perform the Hat trick. He claimed the wickets of HK Olonga, AG Huckle, M Mbangwa of the first three successive deliveries of his seventh over. Saqlain Mushtaq’s feat was the first hat trick to conclude a game in World Cup as well as in One day Internationals.

Kirsten became the sixth batsman to carry the bat through the over allocation in the World Cup. His 188 not out represents the highest individual score by a batsman registered while carrying the bat through in World Cup game as well as in the history of One day internationals

Kirsten was associated in two three figure partnership during the course of his 188 not out. He added 116 runs with WJ Cronje for the second wicket and 145 runs in an unfinished stand for the fourth wicket with D Cullinan. This provides the third instance of two three figure partnerships in the same innings in World Cup.

Paul Strang with his four for 40 in the game between Zimbabwe and West Indies at Hyderabad on 16.02.96, became the ninth bowler to capture four wickets on World Cup debut,

Netherlands became the 14th country to play an official One day game when it met New Zealand at Baroda on 17.02.96. Nettherlands is the seventh country to play an official one dayer without attaining the test status. The other countries are, Sri Lanka, Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, United Arab Emirates, East Africa and Canada. The fist three named were later granted the Official Status as Test playing nation. New Zealand’s innings contained four fifties providing the fourth instance of four fifties including hundreds in World Cup, CM Spearman {64}, SP Fleming {66}, CL Cairns {52} and AC Parore {55} were the four batsmen who registered fifties. P Cantrell, an Australian, who settled down in Netherlands, almost played for Australia. In fact, he took two substitute catches in the second innings to dismiss Alec Stewert and Angus Fraser in the test match between Australia and England at Brisbane in 1990-91. New Zealand deployed eight bowlers in Netherland’s innings providing the fourth instance of eight bowlers used by a team in World Cup games. NMK Smith became the first batsman in the World Cup to retire with illness in the game between England and UAE at Peshawar on 18.02.96.

A Jadeja’s 53 and Tendulkar’s 127 in the match between India and Kenya at Cuttack on 18.02.96 provides the third instance of an opening batsmen registering a fifty and a hundred in World Cup.

Opening batsmen – A Flower and G Flower of Zimbabwe – were dismissed run out for 8 and 15 respectively in the match against Sri Lanka on 21.02.96, providing the second instance of both the openers run out in World Cup. It also provides the second instance of brothers dismissed run out in World Cup. The first instance was Chappell brothers – Ian and Greg – run out in the game between Australia and West Indies at Lord’s on 21.06.75. Aravinda de Silva’s 91 in this game provided the 16th instance of a ninety in World Cup. Aravinda de Silva became the first Sri Lankan batsman to register ninety in World Cup.

Mark Waugh scored 130 in the game against Kenya at Vizag on 23.02.06. His hundred in this game represented the seventh hundred by an Aussie batsman in World Cup. Mark Waugh’s 130 for Australia and K Otieno’s 85 for Kenya provides the fourth instance of rival openers registering a hundred and a fifty in World Cup. There are 13 such instances in World Cup. Waugh brothers – Mark and Steve – were concerned in a 207 run partnership for the third wicket in this game, providing the first instance of a 200 plus runs partnership in World Cup games. As of now there are six partnerships of 200 plus runs in World Cup. Maurice Odumbe became the first Kenyan captain to register a fifty in World Cup. He made an exact 50 in this game. Kenya registered their first three figure partnership in World Cup through Otieno and Odumbe who added 102 runs for the third wicket.


Javed Miandad became the only Cricketer to represent Pakistan in the first six editions of the World Cup when he appeared in the game between Pakistan and UAE at Gujranwala on 24.02.06.

The game between South Africa and England at Rawalpindi on 25.02.96 provided the fourth instance of both the sides dismissed in a World Cup in which no batsman from either side registered a fifty in a World Cup game. Zimbabwe-Kenya encounter at Patna on 26.02.06 was declared void and was replayed. An ICC Committee subsequently ruled that such matches should count for the record purposes. The replayed match on 27.02.06 was won by Zimbabwe by five wickets

Paul Strang’s five for 21 for Zimbabwe against Kenya at Patna on 27.02.96 provided the 50th instance of a bowler taking four plus wickets in the World Cup. Mark Waugh became the first batsman to register back to back hundreds in the World Cup, when he registered 130 runs for Australia against India at Wankhede Stadium, Bombay on 27.02.96. Australian openers ME Waugh and MA Taylor registered 126 and 59 respectively providing the fourth instance of openers registering a hundred and a fifty in World Cup. Aamir Sohail’s 111 for Pakistan against South Africa at Karachi on 29.02.96 went in vain as South Africa romped home by five wickets. Aamir Sohail became the fifth batsman to witness his World Cup hundred going in vain. Aamir Sohail is credited with registering the first of the four Nelsons in the World Cup.

SF Dukanwala {5 for 29} and Salim Raza {84} were awarded the Men of the Match for the performances in the game between UAE and Netherlands at Lahore on 01.03.96. This is the second instance in the World Cup when the Man of the Match award was shared between two cricketers. The first instance was at Nagpur on 31.10.87 in the game between India and New Zealand. Sunil Gavaskar and Chetan Sharma shared the Award in this game.

Sachin Tendulkar’s 137 for India against Sri Lanka at Delhi on 02.03.96 could not clinch a win for India, providing the sixth instance of a batasman’s hundred going in vain in World Cup. Tendulkar became the third centurion to be run out in World Cup

Tendulkar with his 137 in this game became the fourth batsman to register four consecutive fifties in World Cup games after G Fowler of England, DC Boon of Australia and Navjoth Singh Sidhu of India. In the match between South Africa and Netherlands at Rawalpindi on 05.03.96, South African openers G Kirsten and AC Hudson registered 83 and 161 respectively to provide the fifth instance of openers registering a fifty and a hundred in World Cup.

The match between Sri Lanka and Kenya at Kandy on 06.03.96 saw Sri Lanka posting 398 for five wickets which remains the highest total by a team in the World Cup.. PA de Silva’s 145 for Sri Lanka and S Tikolo’s 96 for Kenya provide the fourth instance of rival batsmen registering a hundred and ninety in the World Cup. This game also witnessed the seventh instance of rival captains scoring zero and a fifty with Sri Lankan skipper Arjuna Ranatunga scoring 75 not out and Kenyan skipper Maurice Odumbe failing to open his account.

Rashid Latif of Pakistan emulated Syed Kirmani of India and Jimmy Adams of West Indies as he effected five dismissals {four catches and one stumping} in the game against New Zealand at Lahore on 06.03.96 to become the third Wicket keeper to effect five dismissals in the World Cup

India won their second World Cup fixture against the traditional rivals Pakistan at Bangalore on 09.03.96 by 39 runs. Navjoth Singh Sidhu’s 93 in this game provided the 21st fifty in the World Cup and he is the third Indian batsman to be dismissed in nineties.

BC Lara’s 111 for West Indies against South Africa at Karachi on 11.03.96 provide the second instance of a Nelson in World Cup.

In the game between Australia and England at Madras on 11.03.96 rival batsmen registered hundreds. CZ Harris for New Zealand scored 130 while Mark Waugh for Australia registered 110. The game between India and England at Perth on 22.02.92 witnessed the fifth instance of rival captains registering a zero and fifty in the World Cup. For India Mohd Azharuddin failed to score while Graham Gooch registered 55.

Andy Flower made 115 not out to earn the distinction of becoming the second wicket keeper to register a hundred in World Cup. He also carried the bat through in the allotted over providing the fifth instance of a batsman carrying the bat through in World Cup games. He also became the sixth batsman to register a hundred on World Cup debut. Andy Flower became the fourth batsman in the World Cup to witness his hundred going in vain. Sri Lanka remains the only team to register 300 plus runs batting second in World Cup games. Andy Flower became the third batsman to register a debut hundred in the history of one day internationals. The other two are DL Amiss {103 not out against Australia at Manchester on 24.08.72} and DL Haynes {148 against Australia at St John’s on 22.02.78}

The first ever meeting between South Africa and Australia in one day internationals was the World Cup fixture at Sydney on 26.02.92. South Africa won this game by nine wickets. Kepler Wessels earned the distinction of becoming the first cricketer to represent two countries {Australia and South Africa} in World Cup games. Kepler Wessels had represented Australia and played 53 One day Internationals for them and had aggregated 1740 runs. Alan Donald missed the distinction of claiming a wicket off his first delivery in the World Cup when he had GR Marsh caught by wicket keeper Richardson but umpire Aldridge ruled not out. Alan Border was dismissed first ball without scoring bowled by Kuiper. Border became the second Aussie captain to be dismissed without scoring in World Cup games after KJ Hughes who failed to open the account in the game between Australia and Zimbabwe at Nottingham on 09.06.83. Quite interestingly both Zimbabwe and South Africa were making their first appearance in World Cup. KJ Hughes and AR Border are the only two Australian captains in the World Cup games to be dismissed without scoring. David Boon kept wickets in this game with Ian Healy injured {hamstring}.

AR Border’s zero for Australia and KC Wessels’s 81 not out for South Africa in this game provided the sixth instance of rival captains registering zero and fifty in the World Cup.

KC Wessels has the unique distinction of registering a fifty on his debut in the World Cup games for both the counties. He had scored 76 for Australia against Zimbabwe at Nottingham on 09.06.83 and in the game against Australia representing South Africa at Sydney on 26.02.92 he made 81 not out

RB Richardson’s 56 for West Indies and DL Houghton’s 55 for Zimbabwe at Brisbane on 29.02.92 provides the third instance of rival captains registering fifties in World Cup games.

A Kuiper of South Afrcia was dismissed “run out” in an unusual circumstance. Piloo Reporter, the Indian umpire who was officiating the match standing at the non striker’s end called a delivery No Ball bowled by New Zealand bowler Chris Cairns and off that delivery Kuiper was caught at the wicket by Ian Smith. Kuiper did not notice the No ball call and left the crease under the impression that he was didmsissed of a fair delivery. New Zealand fieldsman Chris Harris displaying a rare sense of cool, collected the ball from Ian Smith and removed the bails, with Kuiper out of the ground. The appeal for run out was upheld and Kuiper was declared run out.

DM Jones’s 90 for Australia and Mohd Azharuddin’s 93 for India at Brisbane on 01.03.92 provides the second instance of rival batsmen registering nineties in World Cup games. The first such instance was witnessed at Jaipur on 26.10.87 in the match between England and West Indies. GA Gooch scored 92 for England while RB Richardson came up with 93 for West Indies. As on date there are only four such instances in World Cup. Australia won this game by one run providing the second instance of one run victory in World Cup, The first instance was also between Australia and India at Madras on 09.10.87. In Indian innings there were four run outs {Azharuddin, SV Manjrekar, Manoj Prabhakar and SLV Raju} providing the fifth instance of four run outs in an innings in World Cup games. Mohd Azharuddin became the second batsman in the World Cup to be dismissed run out with ninety plus scores when he was run out for 93 in this game

Pakistan was dismissed for 74 in 40.2 overs in the game against England at Adelaide on 01.03.92. Pakistan’s total of 74 provided the fifth instance of team’s total less than 100 in World Cup.

Sri Lanka won its first encounter with South Africa at Wellington on 02.03.92 with a ball to spare providing the second instance of a team winning the game with a ball to spare in the World Cup. The first instance was Australia’s win over India at Madras on 09.10.87. Omar Henry made his debut in this game for South Africa and is credited with the distinction of becoming the first black cricketer to appear for South Africa in an international game.

The first ever encounter in the World Cup between India and Pakistan at Sydney on 04.03.92 was won by India by 43 runs. Sachin Tendulkar was declared Man of the Match for his 54 not out.

Ian Botham of England captured four wickets and scored 53 runs against Australia at Sydney on 05.03.92 to provide the second instance of an all round performance of four wickets coupled with fifty runs in the World Cup. The first instance is credited to DAG Fletcher of Zimbabwe who took four for 42 and scored 69 not out against Australia at Nottingham on 09.06.83. Ian Botham captured three wickets without conceding a run in one over {W . W . W .} The three batsmen dismissed with the score reading 155 were IA Healey caught Fairbrother for 09 {6-155}, PL Taylor lbw for zero {7-155}and CJ McDermott caught De Freitas for zero {8-155}.

Inzamam-ul-Huq was dismissed run out through a classic effort by Jonty Rhodes in the game between Pakistan and South Africa at Brisbane on 08.03.92. Huq raced for a leg bye but saw the non striker rooted to his crease. Rhodes collected the ball from backward point, covered the ground, picked the ball and instead of throwing the ball to the wicket keeper Richardson, he himself dashed towards the stumps and leaping forward and air borne he broke the stumps with Huq yet to regain the crease.

Mr Extras top scored in Zimbabwe’s innings against South Africa on 10.03.92 at Canberra providing the first of the nine such instances in World Cup. In Zimbabwe’s innings of 163, Extras were 28 and the highest score by a batsman was 20 {EA Brandes}

The first ever one day game between England and South Africa at Melbourne on 12.03.92 was won by England with a ball to spare. This win by England provided the third instance of such a win in World Cup. KC Wessels’s 85 for South Africa and AJ Stewart’s 77 for England provides the fourth instance of rival skippers registering fifties in World Cup games. By a strange coincidence both the rival skippers opened the innings for their respective sides

In the game between Australia and Zimbabwe at Hobart on 14.03.92, all the bowlers {Zim – five bowlers : Aus – six bowlers} who chanced their arms with the ball claimed at least one wicket providing the first such instance in World Cup. The second such instance in the World Cup was witnessed in the game between Bangladesh and Canada at Durban on 11.02.03 when six bowlers of Bangladesh and four bowlers from Canada claimed at least one wicket.

Aamir Sohail’s zero and Rameez Raja’s 119 not out for Pakistan against New Zealand at Christchurch on 18..03.92 provides the lone instance in World Cup games of opening batsmen registering zero and a hundred.

DC Boon’s 100 for Australia and BC Lara’s 70 for West Indies at Melbourne on 18.03.92 provides the second instance of rival openers registering a hundred and fifty in World Cup games. The first such instance was witnessed in the game between Australia and Sri Lanka at The Oval on 11,06.75 when Australia’s A Turner scored 101 and S Wettimuny of Sri Lanka scored 53. As on date there are 13 such instance in the World Cup games.

England and Zimbabwe match at Albury on 18.03.92 provided the second instance of both the sides dismissed in World Cup in which no batsman from either side registered a fifty. The first game providing such an instance was the 1983 finals at Lord’s on 25.06.83 between India and West Indies.

Martin Crowe became the third batsman in the World Cup to be dismissed run out with ninety plus scores when he was run out for 91 in the game between New Zealand and Pakistan at Auckland on 21.03.92. As on date there are six such instances in World Cup.

South Africa entering the Semi finals in its first entry to the World Cup lost the game to England at Sydney on 22.03.92 by “rain rule” which was adopted for the first time in the World Cup. When rain interrupted play with 14 balls to be bowled South Africa required 24 runs for a victory. Whe
n play resumed South Africa was required to score 21 runs off just one ball.

Pakistan won the 1992 edition of the World Cup by 22 runs against England at Melbourne on 25.03.92. Paksitan’s Javed Miandad became the second batsman to aggregate 1000 runs in the World Cup. He reached the mile stone when he was on 22 during his knock of 58 in this game. IVA Richards of West Indies was the first batsman to aggregate 1000 World Cup runs. He aggregated 1013 runs from 23 games. Javed Miandad aggregate at the end of this game stood at 1029 from 28 games. Thus Javed Miandad became the batsman with most runs in the World Cup at the end of the World Cup finals of 1992

DC Boon when he registered 100 against New Zealand at Auckland on 22.02.92 became the second batsman in the World Cup to register four consecutive fifties spanning two World Cups. He had registered three consecutive fifties in 1987 edition and his 100 in the first game of 1992 edition was his fourth consecutive fifty. Boon’s performance is listed thus – 93 vs Zimbabwe at Cuttack on 30.10.87 : 65 vs Pakistan at Lahore on 04.11.87 : 75 vs New Zealand at Calcutta on 08.11.87 and 100 vs New Zealand at Auckland on 22.02.92
