Batsmen who have scored 1000 plus boundary fours in tests – AN Cook of England gets added to the elite list

AN Cook of England scored 16 runs in England’s first innings against New Zealand at Lord’s in the ongoing first test. He scored three boundary fours in his innings of 16. These three boundary fours game him 1000 boundary fours and with it the distinction of becoming the 21st batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 1000 plus boundary fours. He also became the third England batsman to achieve the feat after AJ Stewert {1121} and GA Gooch {1079).  The following table furnishes the complete list of batsmen who have achieved the feat.

DJ Bravo earned the distinction of becoming the first all rounder in Indian Premier League to score 1000 plus runs and to capture 100 plus wickets. He achieved the feat when he captured the wicket of PA Patel caught by RA Jadeja for 35 in the game between Chennai and Mumbai at Mumbai on 19.05.15. He returned with figures of 3 for 40 and his wicket aggregate at the end of this game read 102. He scored 20 in this game to take run aggregate in IPL to 1154. The contrived game between Punjab and Bangalore at Mohali on 13.05.15 witnessed an unique incidence in  the history of IPL. Bangalore opened its innings with CH Gayle and V Kohli. Both the batsmen had an aggregate of 3000 plus runs. CH Gayle had an aggregate of 3078 IPL runs while V Kohli’s aggreate read 3048 IPL runs at the start of the match providing the unique occasion of both the openers having an aggregate of 3000 plus runs.  They scored 17 and 19 runs respectively in this  game and had an aggregate of 3095 and 3068  at the end of the game. Bangalore remains the only team in the Indian Premier League to have two batsmen with an aggregate of 3000 plus  runs

Mumbai won its IPL game by five runs against Kolkata at Mum-WS on 14.05.15 to provide the eighth win by single digit run  margin in IPL 2015. This equalled the record in the history of IPL for most wins by single digit run margin in a single edition of IPL.  The previous record was eight wins 2013.
