One more feather in R Ashwin’s cap – becomes the second bowler to capture ten plus wickets on first appearance against two oppositions – emulates CV Grimmett after 84 years
R Ashwin captured ten wickets on first appearance against Sri Lanka in the ongoing test at Galle. He returned with figures of 10 for 160 in the match {6-46 and 4-114}. It provides the second occasion of his capturing ten plus wickets on first appearance against an opposition. He had captured 12 for 85 {6-31 and 6-54} against New Zealand at Hyderabad In 2012 on first appearance against New Zealand
His feat of capturing ten or more wickets on first appearance against two specific oppositions makes him the second bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture ten or more wickets on first appearance against two specific oppositions. CV Grimmett of Australia is the other bowler to perform such a feat.
CV Grimmett had performed the feat in Dec 1930 and it took almost 85 years for Ashwin to emulate the feat of CV Grimmett
