AB de Villiers adds one more feather to his cap – become the first ever batsman and captain to score fifty boundary sixes in a calendar year
AB de Villiers of South Africa became the first batsman to score fifty boundary sixes in a calendar year. He achieved the feat when he scored his third boundary six – off Bhuvaneshwar Kumar over mid wickert which was a mishit – to credit himself with the first ever batsman to score fifty boundary sixes in a calendar year. At the end of this game, his aggregate of boundary sixes read 58.
The previous record for most sixes in a calendar year was held by Shahid Afridi of Pakistan who had a total of 48 boundary sixes in calendar year 2002. AB de Villiers was one boundary sixe shy of Shahid Afridi prior to the start of the final one day game against India and required two boundary sixes to rewrite the record of most boundary sixes in a calendar year,
