AB de Villiers earns two records associated with boundary sixes when a batsman has scored centuries in a calendar year

AB de Villiers scored six boundary sixes in his knock of 104 not out and earned two records associated with boundary sixes when the batsman has scored centuries. His six boundary sixes gave him a total of 30 boundary sixes in the calendar year 2015 in his knock of three centuries. He became the first batsman in the history of one day games to score 30 boundary sixes in a calendar year while scoring centuries. The previous record was held by SR Tendulkar who had scored 29 boundary sixes in 1998 in his nine centuries.  SR Tendulkar’s nine centuries and 29 boundary sixes were records for most centuries and most boundary sixes while scoring centuries in a calendar year. Thus it took 17 years for a batsman to rewrite the record for most boundary sixes in a calendar year.

The other record earned by AB de Villiers – he became the first captain to score 30 boundary sixes in a calendar year while scoring centuries. The previous record was held by SC Ganguly of India who had scored 27 boundary sixes while scoring five centuries in the calendar year 2000.

It should be noted with interest that AB devilliers earned the two records of scoring most boundary sixes while scoring centuries as a batsman and also as captain while scoring least number of centuries – three. SR Tendulkar’s 29 boundary sixes were scored in nine centuries while SC Ganguly’s 27 boundary sixes were scored in five centuries
