His feat provides the 49^th occasion of a batsman scoring five or more centuries in a calendar year in the annals of test cricket. All such occasions are listed belwo.

KS Williamson earned the distinction of becoming the first New Zealand batsman to score five centuries in a calendar year. The previous record was four centuries scored by BB McCullum and KS Williamson himself in the calendar year 2014.

SPD Smith of  Australia became the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to score five or more hundreds in a calendar year on two or more occasions. The batsmen who have accomplished this rare feat are – ML Hayden {on three occasions in 2001, 2002 and 2003} and RT Ponting {on two occasions in 2005 and 2006 and SPD Smith {on two occasions in 2014 and 2015}  It is  interesting to note that all the three batsmen are Australians.
