MS Dhoni earned the distinction of becoming the first captain in the history of T20Is to play 50 innings as captain when he batted in this game. He scored 9 not out in this game.

Sri Lanka’s loss in this game provides second loss by largest margin of runs. It has lost a game by 81 runs against West Indies at Bridgetown on 09.05.10

Sri Lanka’s loss in this game provide its fourth loss against India – two losses by runs margin and two losses by wickets margin.

India registered its 35th win in T20Is when it beat Sri Lanka by 69 runs in this game. It provides India’s 18th win by runs margin and fourth win by 50 plus runs margin.

The previous best for the fourth wicket was 26 runs unfinished partnership between SK Raina and MS Dhoni at Pallekele on 07.08.12

RG Sharma-S Dhawan added 75 runs for the first wicket and SK Raina-HH Pandya added 59 runs for the fourth wicket in this game to provide the tenth occasion of Indian batsmen posting two 50 plus runs partnerships in the same innings of a T20I. It also provides the fourth such occasion against Sri Lanka.

The first and fourth fifty plus runs partnership posted by Indian batsmen provide the second occasion of Indian batsmen posting two fifty plus runs partnerships for the first and fourth wicket in an innings. TM Dilshan, NLTC Perera. SMSM Senanayake and PVD Chameera failed to score in Sri Lanka’s innings to provide the 18th occasion of four or more batsmen scoring ducks in an innings of a T20I in the history of T20Is, It also provides the second such occasion by Sri Lankan batsmen in a T20I. The first such occasion was against South Africa at Col-RPS on  02.08.13 when four Sri Lankan batsmen – BMAJ Mendis, NLTC Perere, SMSM Senanayake and SL Malinga – had failed to open their accounts. It is interesting to note that NLTC Perera and SMSM Senanayake were part of both the occasions.

NLTC Perera returned with figures of 3 for 33 in this game to provide the eighth occasion of  a bowler captring 3 for 33 in the history of T20Is. NLTC Perera became the second bowler to capture 3 for 33 in a T20I after CB Mpofu of Zimbabwe. CB Mpofu had figures of 4.0-0-33-3 at Harare on 17.07.15.

R Ashwin captured 3 for 14 in this game to provide the fourth occasion of an Indian bowler capturing three or more wickets against Sri Lanka in a T20I. It also represents the second best bowling figures against Sri Lanka in a T20I. The best figure is by AB Dinda who had captured 4 for 19 at Pallekele on 07.08.12
