S Dhawan and KL Rahul added 166 runs for the first wicket in its second innings {third innings of the test} to provide the ninth occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the first wicket in the third innings of the test on home soil against various oppositions . All such occasions are tabulated below. It also provides the first such occasion against Sri Lanka. The previous best was the 81 runs partnership between G Gambhir and V Sehwag at Ahmedabad in Nov 2009. By a coincidence the Nov 2009 test at Ahmedabad had a start date of 16. The ongoing test at Kolkata has also a start date of 16 Nov 2017.
