K Rabada has captured nine five wicket hauls in his test career prior to the start of the third test.  One more haul would fetch him his tenth five wicket haul and with it he would become the seventh South African bowler to capture ten or more five wicket hauls. Others are – DW Steyn {26}, AA Donald {20}, M Ntini {18}, SM Pollock {16}, HD Tayfield {14} and VD Philander {13}

VD Philander has captured 72 wickets in his test career on away soil prior to the start of the third test.  Three more wickets would fetch him 75 wickets with it he would become the ninth South African bowler to capture 75 plus wickets on away soil. Four more  such hauls would  fetch 350 five wicket hauls, India  would then become the  third team in the annals of test  cricket to have 350 plus  five wicket hauls. KA Maharaj conceded 514 runs in two tests he played so far in this series. He emulated Saqlain Mushtaq of Pakistan who also has conceded 500 plus runs in a two test series. Saqlain Mushtaq conceded 512 runs in two tests against Sri Lanka in 1996-97 series. Rumors are that KA Maharaj may not play the third test at Ranchi. If he does not play the third test, then KA Maharaj and Saqlain Mushtaq will become the two bowlers in the annals of Test cricket to leak 500 plus runs in a two Test series. KA Maharaj will also earn the distinction of becoming the most expensive bowler in two Test series. He has  conceded 514 runs, while Saqlain Mushtaq has leaked 512 runs
