India’s unique innings win in tests

India won the Kolkata test against West Indies in November 2011 by an innings and 15 runs providing the first  occasion of a team winning a test by an innings in the  annals  of the test when the losing team has scored 400 plus runs in the third innings after batting second losing the toss

India batted first after winning the toss and posted 631 for seven before declaring its innings closed. West indies  was dismissed for 153 and  was asked  to follow on. Again it was dismissed for 463 in its second innings – third innings of the test – leaving India victorious by an innings and 15 runs.

The following table lists the seven occasions of a team posting an innings win as on date when a team has posted 400 plus runs in the third innings of the test. Out of these seven occasions. the  first six occasions show that the losing team has batted first, while the seventh one  shows that the losing team has batted second
