He now stands third in the list of England captains who have scored most fifties. Others are – AN Cook {36} and MA Atherton {30}. He went past GA Gooch who has  scored 27 fifties  as England captain to occupy the third place.

JE Root was leading England for the 25^th occasion in this test. He became the third captain to lead England in 25 plus tests. Others are AN Cook {32} and MA Atherton {28}
