JE Root scored 128* at the end of the first day’s play in the first test between India and England at Chennai to provide the tenth occasion of a batsman scoring a century in his 100^th test. He also became the ninth batman to perform such a feat. RT Ponting is the only batsman in the annals of test cricket to score centuries in both innings of his 100^th test. He scored 120 and 143 not out against South Africa at Sydney in Jan 2006.
