JE Root scored 128* at the end of the first day’s play in the first test between India and England at Chennai to provide the tenth occasion of a batsman scoring a century in his 100th test. He also became the ninth batman to perform such a feat. RT Ponting is the only batsman in the annals of test cricket to score centuries in both innings of his 100th test. He scored 120 and 143 not out against South Africa at Sydney in Jan 2006.
