AM Rahane and Washigton Sundar scored ducks in India’s second innings to provide the 256th and 257th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a duck in an innings against England.

It also provides the 98th and 99th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a duck in an innings against England in India and also provides the 11th and 12th such occasion at Chennai.

R Ashwin had scored 2467 runs and captured 377 wickets prior to the start of the first test at Chennai against England. He needed 33 more runs for his 2500 runs. He scored 31 and 9 which fetched him 2507 runs. His nine wickets in this test fetched him 386 wickets. He became the third Indian all rounder to score 2500 runs and capture 375 plus wickets. Others are – Kapil Dev {5248 runs and 434 wickets} and A Kumble {2506 runs and 619 wickets}

Washington Sundar scored 85 not out and zero in this test to provide the 20th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a fifty and a duck in a test against England.

S Nadeem scored a duck in India’s second innings to provide the 100th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a duck against England on home soil. It also provides the 12th such occasion against England at Chennai and also provides the 258th such occasion against England.

V Kohli’s 72 in this game provide the 49th occasion of an Indian captain scoring a fifty against England. It also represents V Kohli’s seventh fifty against England. MS Dhoni has scored eight fifties to own the record for most fifties by an Indian captain against England.

V Kohli had a run aggregate of 1570 runs against England prior to the start of the first test at Chennai against England.  He required 30 more runs for his 1600 runs. He scored 11 and 72 runs in this test which fetched him an aggregate of 1653 runs. He became the fifth Indian batsman to score 1600 plus runs against England. England won this test by 227 runs to carve its 48th win against India. It also provide its 14th win against India in India and its fourth win at Chepauk
