Indian bowlers who have captured five or more wickets on test debut
AR Patel captured five for 60 in England’s second innings in the just concluded second test at Chennai between India and England to provide the 167th occasion of a bowler capturing five or more wickets on test debut. He became the 158th bowler to capture five plus wickets on test debut.
It also provides the tenth occasion of an Indian bowler capturing five or more wickets on test debut. AR Patel became the ninth Indian bowler to capture five plus wickets on test debut.

AR Patel became the second Indian bowler to capture five plus wickets on test debut against England after M Nissar. M Nissar had captured five for 93 against England at Lord’s in Jun 1932. This test was incidentally India’s first ever test match. Thus AR Patel emulated M Nissar in capturing five plus wickets on test debut after a gap of 88 years and 08 months.
