In Indian innings four batsmen scored ducks – Shubman Gill, V Kohli, I Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav – to provide the 26th occasion of four Indian batsman scoring ducks in a test innings. It also provides the ninth such occasion on home soil.

It also provides the tenth such occasion in a test innings against England and also provides the third such occasion against England on home soil. The other two occasions were – at Delhi in Dec 1976 and at Mumbai in Feb 1980

Kuldeep Yadav failed to score and faced 15 deliveries. His scoring duck after facing 15 deliveries provide the 34th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a duck after facing 15 or more deliveries. It also provides the 12th such occasion against England and second such occasion against England at Chepauk. CPS Chauhan batted 15 deliveries scoring a duck against England at Chepuak in Jan 1973.

There was no extras conceded in India’s innings of 329 in this test to provide the 43rd occasion of No extras in a test innings.

England lost its first wicket without a run on the board to provide the eleventh occasion of England losing its first wicket without a run against India and 124th such occasion against various oppositions.

RR Burns was dismissed for a duck in this game to provide the 17th occasion of an England opening batsman dismissed for a duck in a test innings against India. It also provides the tenth occasion of an England opening batsman dismissed for a duck in a test innings against India in India and the third such occasion at Chepauk.

He went past Harbhajan Singh who had captured 265 wickets on home soil on his way to the second place. A Kumble with 350 wickets on home soil occupies the first place.

R Ashwin’s 5 for 43 in England’s first innings represent his 29th five wicket haul and also his 23rd five wicket haul on home soil.
