AT Carey of Australia scripts a world record for most catches by a debutant wicket keeper

AT Carey of Australia became the third wicket keeper in the annals of test cricket to effect eight dismissals in a test on test debut after HB Taber of Australia and CMS Read of England.

AT Carey created a world record for most catches in a test on test debut. He held eight catches in the just concluded test at Brisbane against England. He bettered the record of seven catches held by  six other wicket keepers listed in the following table.

AT Carey’s eight catches in a test is also an Ashes record for most catches in a match by a debutant wicket keeper. His effort is an improvement over the seven catches held by Australia’s P Nevill on test debut against England at Lord’s in Jul 2015
