FDM Karunaratne was playing his 75th test and made it memorable by scoring a century and also by reaching 5500 runs as an opening batsman. At the end of this test, his run aggregate read 5588. He is one of the three Sri Lankan openers who have an aggregate of 5000 plus runs. Others are ST Jayasuriya {5932} and MS Atapattu {5317}
FDM Karunaratne’s 107 in this test fetched him his 41st fifty of his test career {14 C plus 27 HC} and with it the record for most fifties scored by a Sri Lankan opening batsman.
