He now holds the Australian record for most five wicket hauls against India.

His eight five wicket hauls is also a record for any bowler against India. He went past M Muralidharan who had captured five wicket hauls on seven occasions against India.

NM Lyon’s wickets aggregate against India read 100. He became the first Australian bowler to capture 100 wickets against India. He also became the third bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture 100 plus wickets against India. Others are – JM Anderson of England {139} and M Muralidharan {105}

Test Cricket witnessed – perhaps for the first time – rival bowlers capturing 100 wickets in the same test against their opposition. R Ashwin for India captured his 100th wicket against Australia and NM Lyon captured 100 wickets against India. By a coincidence, R Ashwin and NM Lyon are off spin bowlers in their trade.

AR Patel and R Ashwin added 114 runs for the eighth wicket in this game to provide the 20th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the eighth wicket in a test innings. It also provides the fourth occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the eighth wicket in a test innings against Australia.

It also provides the second occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three figure partnership for the eighth wicket in a test innings against Australia on home soil. The first occasion was the 127 runs partnership between Karsan Ghavri and SMH Kirmani at Wankhede in November 1979.

AR Patel scored 74 in India’s first innings to provide the 102nd occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a fifty in a test innings while batting at number eight. It also provides the 21st occasion of an Indian batsman scoring a fifty in a test innings while batting at number eight against Australia.
