Approaching milestones ahead of India – Sri Lanka test series

The first test of the ensuing test series is scheduled to be played at Kolkata. Kolkata would be hosting its 41st test. It is the only test venue  in India to host 40 plus tests. It is interesting to note that India would be playing a test against Sri Lanka for the first time. Thus Kolkata would become the 13th ground to host a test between India and Sri Lanka.

V Kohli  would be leading  India against Sri Lanka at home  for  the first time. He would become the eight captain to lead India against Sri Lanka at home. Others are – M Azharuddin {04},N Kapil Dev {03}, MS Dhoni {03}, SR Tendulkar {03}, SM Gavaskar {01}, R Dravid {02} and V Sehwag {01}

W Saha would become the fifth Indian wicket keeper to  don the gloves against Sri Lanka at home. Others are MS Dhoni {06}, NR Mongia {06}, KS More {04} and SMH Kirmani {01}

S Dhawan has an aggregate of 520 runs against Sri Lanka prior to the  start of the ensuing test series. He needs 80 more runs to reach the milestone of scoring 600 plus runs against Sri Lanka

As many as 59 centuries have been scored by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka. One more century would give India its 60th century against Sri Lanka. India would then become the first team to score 60 plus centuries against Sri Lanka.

India and England share the record for most centuries against Sri Lanka at home. Both teams have scored 27 centuries. One more century by Indian batsman in the ensuing test series would give India its 28th century and with it the record  of  scoring  most centuries against Sri Lanka at home.

FDM Karunaratne has an aggregate of 940 runs and CA Pujara has an aggregate of 851 runs in 2017 and requires 60 and 149 more runs  for thier  1000 runs. If  they score these, then he would become the second and third batsman to score 1000 plus runs in 2017. D Elgar of South Africa has scored 1097 runs

V Kohli has an aggregate of 2560 runs while leading India in tests. He needs 440 more runs for his 3000 runs. If  he  scores them, then he would become the third Indian captain to score 3000 plus runs. Others are MS Dhoni {3454} and SM Gavaskar {3449}.

V Kohli has scored ten centuries while leading India in tests. He needs one more century which would fetch him 11 centuries. If he gets them, then he would share the record for most centuries by an Indian captain with SM Gavaskar. SM Gavaskar has scored eleven centuries while leading India.

V Kohli has scored 14 fifties while leading India. One more fifty would fetch him his 15th fifty. If he scores one more fifty, he would then become the sixth Indian captain to score 15 or more fifties. Others are – MS Dhoni {29}. SM Gavaskar {25}, M Azharuddin {18}, SC Ganguly {18} and MAK Pataudi {18}.

V Kohli has scored ten centuries while leading India in tests. He needs two more centuries which would fetch him 12 centuries. If he gets them, then he would own the record for most centuries by an Indian captain. SM Gavaskar owns the record as of now with eleven centuries

S Dhawan has an aggregate of 1822 runs as an opening batsman prior to the start  of the series. He needs 178 more runs for his 1000 runs. If he gets them, he would then become the ninth Indian opening batsman to score 2000 plus  runs. Others are – SM Gavaskar {9607}, V Sehwag {8124}, G Gambhir {4119}, M Vijay {3306}, NS Sidhu {2911}, P Roy {2220}, CPS Chauhan {2069} and K Srikkanth {2062}

S Dhawan has scored nine fifties as an opening batsman prior to the start of the series. He needs one more runs fifty for his tenth fifty. If he gets them, he would then become the sixteenth Indian opening batsman to score ten or more fifties.

M Azharuddin is the other fieldsman to pouch 27 catches against Sri Lanka.

AM Rahane has pouched 18 catches against Sri Lanka as a fieldsman excluding wicket keepers. He needs two more catches for his 20 catches. If he pouches them, then he would become the fourth fieldsman excluding wicket keepers to pouch 20 plus catches against Sri Lanka. Others are Younis Khan {33}, M Azharuddin {27}, JH Kallis {25} and SP Fleming {23}

WP Saha has effected 13 dismissals prior to the start of this series. He needs two more dismissals for 15 dismissals. If he effects them, then he would become the third Indian wicket keeper to effect 15 or more dismissals. Others are – MS Dhoni {22} and NR Mongia {18}

India has posted nine three figure partnerships for the first wicket against Sri Lanka. One more such partnership would give India ten three figure partnership for the first wicket. If India posts one more three figure partnership, it would then become the first and the only team to post ten three figure partnerships for the first wicket against Sri Lanka.

India and Pakistan share the record for most tests win against Sri Lanka. Both have won 19 tests. One more test win for India, would earn it the record of most test wins with 20 wins.
