IPL has 16 editions and the ensuing edition will be the 17th edition. A peep into the previous sixteen editions will unfold the following interesting statistical nuggets/feats.  Please peruse them in Part Three

There are four cricketers who have led the teams in 100 plus matches  in the tournament. MS Dhoni is the only cricketer to lead in 200 plus matches. He has led in 226  matches – most for a captain. He has won 133 matches – most matches won by a captain. He is the only captain to win 100 plus matches. He has lost 91 matches – most matches lost by a captain in the tournament.

There are 61 cricketers who have played 100 plus matches  in the tournament. 46 of these are Indian cricketers and 15 of these are overseas cricketers.

MS Dhoni has played 250 matches – most by any cricketer in the tournament and also most by an Indian cricketer in the tournament. KA Pollard owns the record for most matches by an overseas cricketer. He has played 189 cricketers.

The fastest hundred in terms of balls faced is credited to CH Gayle. He scored the century in 30 balls representing Bangalore against Pune at Bangalore on 23.04.13. He made 175 not out in this game.

The fastest fifty in terms of balls faced is credited to YBK Jaiswal, He scored the fifty in 13 balls representing Rajasthan against Kolkata at Kolkata on 11.05.23. He made 98 not out in this game.

There are 57 occasions of an opening batsman batting at number one collecting the first ball duck and 43 occasions of an opening batsman batting at number two collecting the first ball duck in the tournament. Thus the tournament has witnessed 100 occasions of opening batsmen collecting the first ball duck in the tournament.

There are 13 occasions of rival captains scoring zero and fifty in the tournament.  There are 13 occasions of captain opener collecting the first ball duck and ten occasions of wicket keeper opener collecting the first ball duck in the tournament.

There are 14 bowlers who have captured 25 or more wickets in an edition of the tournament.

SL Malinga of Mumbai and YS Chahal of Rajasthan have captured 20 plus wickets in four editions.

Five Indian bowlers have captured 25 plus wickets in an edition and nine overseas bowlers have captured 25 plus wickets in an edition in the tournament.

There are 17 occasions of bowlers conceding 30 plus runs in an over in the tournament Parameswaran of Bangalore and HV Patel of Chennai have conceded most runs in an over – 37 runs  and share the  record of conceding most runs in an over.
