SR Tendulkar would become the second cricketer to appear in six world cups. Javed Miandad holds the record of playing six world Cups. He represented Pakistan in 1975, 1979, 1983, 1987, 1992 and 1996 world Cups. SR Tendulkar of India has played in five world Cups – 1992, 1996, 1999, 2003 and 2007.

SR Tendulkar has played 36 world cup games prior to the start of the ensuing world Cup. He requires four more games to become the second cricketer to appear in 40 plus world Cup games

Zaheer Khan would then become the fifth left arm bowler to aggregate 25 wickets after Wasim Akram {55}. WPUJC Vaas {49}, GB Hogg {34} and ST Jayasuriya {27} and the third left arm pace bowler after Wasim Akram and WPUJC Vaas to achieve the milestone

A Nehra who has an aggregate of 15 wickets prior to the start of the world cup require five more wickets for his 20 wickets. If he gets there, he would become he would become the the eighth left arm bowler to total 20 plus wickets in the world cup. Others are – Wasim Akram, WPUJC Vaas, GB Hogg, ST Jayasuriya, Zaheer Khan and GI Allott. A Nehra would become the fifth left arm pace to perform the feat after Wasim Akram, WPUJC Vaas, Zaheer Khan and GI Allott

MS Dhoni who has led India in 93 one day games needs seven more games to his 100^th game as captain. Should he get there, he would then become 15^th captain in the history of one day games to lead a team on 100 or more occasions. He would become the third Indian captain to earn the distinction after M Azharuddin {174} and SC Ganguly {147}

MS Dhoni would become the sixth captain to lead India in world cup games. Others are – M Azharuddin {23}, N Kapil Dev {15}, SC Ganguly {11}, S Venkataraghavan {06} and R Dravid {03}

Prior to the start of the world cup, 81 captains have led various teams in the earlier world cup editions. At the end of 2011 edition, the captains who have led various teams would be 93.

As the inaugural game of this edition would be between Bangladesh and India at Dhaka on 19.02.11, both the teams will be led by new captains. Bangladesh would be led by Shakib Al Hasan while India will be led by MS Dhoni. They would become the 82^nd and 83^rd captains to lead a team in the world cup

India will be led by MS Dhoni who also keeps wickets in this edition. MS Dhoni would become the seventh wicket keeper captain to lead a team in the world cup. Others are – BM Mauricette of Canada, AJ Stewart of England, LK Germon of New Zealand, A Flower of Zimbabwe, Khaled Mashud of Bangladesh and J Smits of Netherlands.

MS Dhoni who has an aggregate of 5808 runs in one day games as a wicket keeper batsman require 192 more runs for 6000 runs. He would then become the third wicket keeper batsman to total 6000 plus runs in one day games. Others are – AC Gilchrist {9410} and KC Sangakkara {7711} – aggregate runs prior to the start of the world cup.

MS Dhoni wha has scored 23 half centuries as a wicket keeper-cum-captain in one day games require two more half centuries for his 25 half centuries. He would then become the first wicket keeper-cum-captain in the history of one day games to score 25 half centuries

MS Dhoni who has played 93 one day games as wicket keeper captain require seven more games for his 100 appearances. He would then become the first wicket keeper batsman to play 100 games in the history of one day games

RT Ponting and Imran Khan are on par having led Australia and Paki
stan on 22 occasions. Three more games for RT Ponting would give RT Ponting the distinction of leading Australia in 25 games. He would then become the second captain in the history of world cup to lead a team on 25 plus occasions. SP Fleming is the other captain who has led New Zealand on 27 occasions. RT Ponting on his way to 25 captaincy assignments will go past M Azharuddin of India who has 23 captaincy assignments. Six more captaincy assignments for RT Ponting would make him the captain with most assignments – 28 {Note – Australia plays six games in the league stages of the tournament}

It is interesting to note that the following captains who have led their respective teams in 15 or more games are yet to register a duck – RT Ponting of Australia {22 games as captain} : CH Lloyd of West Indies {17 games as captain} and N Kapil Dev of India {15 games as captain}

If he gets it, he would become the captain in the world cup with most half centuries and he would wrest the record from M Azharuddin of India who has scored six half centuries.

RT Ponting and SC Ganguly have scored three hundreds in the world cup as captain. One more hundred for RT Ponting would give him his fourth hundred and he would then earn the distinction of becoming the captain with most hundreds in the world cup

Harbhajan Singh has an aggregate of 246 one day wickets. He requires four more wickets for 250 wickets. If he gets them, he would become 22^nd bowler in the annals of one day games to capture 250 plus wickets. He would become the sixth Indian bowler to capture 250 plus wickets in one day games. Others are – A Kumble {337}: J Srinath {315}: AB Agarkar {288}: N Kapil Dev {253} and Zaheer Khan {182}

Harbhajan Singh {242} and Zaheer Khan {239} have captured 242 and 239 wickets in one day games representing India. They require eight and eleven wickets for their 250 wickets. If they get them, they would become the fifth and sixth bowlers to capture 250 plus wickets representing India. Others are – A Kumble {334}: J Srinath {315}: AB Agarkar {288} and N Kapil Dev {253}

Harbhajan Singh had captured 96 wickets on home soil and requires four more wickets for 100 wickets. If he gets them, he would become sixth spin bowler in the annals of one day games to capture 100 plus wickets on home soil. Others are – M Muralitharan of Sri Lanka {141}: SK Warne of Australia {134}: A Kumble of India {126}: ST Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka {119} and DL Vettori of New Zealand {111}

SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 2965 runs against Sri Lanka. He needs 35 more runs for 3000 runs. If he gets them, he would become the only batsman in the annals of one day game to total 3000 plus runs against two specific teams. He has an aggregate of 3005 runs against Australia. As of now he remains the only batsman in the annals of one day games to total 3000 plus runs against a specific opposition

SR Tendulkar’s 3000 against Sri Lanka would earn him the distinction of becoming the first batsman to total 3000 plus runs against Sri Lanka

SR Tendulkar’s feat of 3000 plus runs against two teams – Australia and Sri Lanka – would constitute a world record as he would be the first batsman in the annals of one day games to earn such a distinction

SR Tendulkar has scored nine hundreds against Australia and requires one more hundred for his 10^th hundred. If he gets it, he would become the first batsman in the annals of one day gamest to score ten hundreds against a specific opposition which is a world record.

SR Tendulkar has scored eight hundreds against Sri Lanka and requires one more hundred for his ninth hundred. If he gets it, he would become the first batsman in the annals of one day games to score nine hundreds against two specific oppositions which is a world record

RT Ponting of Australia and V Sehwag of India have scored six hundreds against New Zealand and require one more hundred for their seventh hundred. If they get it, their would provide the fifth and sixth occasion of a batsman scoring seven hundreds against a specific opposition. The other four occasions are – SR Tendulkar of India {nine hundreds vs Australia} : SR Tendulkar of India {eight hundred vs Sri Lanka} : ST Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka {seven hundreds vs India} and Saeed Anwar of Pakistan {seven hundreds vs Sri Lanka}

V Sehwag’s seven hundreds against New Zealand would provide the third occasion of an Indian batsman scoring seven or more hundreds against a specific opposition.

RT Ponting and V Sehwag would become the first batsman to score seven hundreds against New Zealand depending upon who gets their seventh hundred first.

SR Tendulkar has scored 17 half centuries against Sri Lanka and requires one more half century for his 18^th half centuries. If het gets them, he would then become the fourth batsmen in the annals of one day games, to score 18 half centuries against a specific opposition. Others are – IVA Richards of West Indies {20 vs Australia} : DL Haynes of West Indies {18 vs Pakistan} and ST Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka {18 vs Paksitan}

SR Tendulkar would become the first Indian batsman to score 18 half centuries against a specific opposition

GC Smith has scored 37 one day half centuries and requires two more half centuries for his 39^th half century. If he gets them, he would then occupy the second place among captains who have scored most fifties. The first positon is held by RT Ponting with 51 half centuries. If he gets his 39^th fifty, he would surpass three captains who have scored 37 or more half centuries – SP Fleming {38}: M Azharuddin {37} and A Ranatunga {37}

RT Ponting of Australia has an aggregate of nine sixes in the World Cup against India. SB Styris of New Zealand has a total of nine sixes in the World Cup against Sri Lanka. Both these batsmen require one more six for their tenth six against the said opposition. They would become the third or fourth batsmen to score ten or more sixes against a specific opposition in the World Cup depending who scores their tenth six first. Others are – AC Gilchrist of Australia {11 sixes vs Sri Lanka} and N Kapil Dev of India
{10 sixes vs Zimbabwe}

Shahid Afridi of Pakistan has scored 47 one day sixes against India. He needs three more sixes for his 50 sixes. If he gets them he would become the only batsman in the annals of one day game to score 50 plus sixes against two oppositions which is a world record. He has already scored 54 sixes against Sri Lanka.

Shahid Afridi’s feat of 50 plus sixes against India would provide the third occasion of a batsman achieving such a feat in the annals of one day games. The other two occasions are – Shahid Afridi {54 sixes vs Sri Lanka} and ST Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka {53 sixes vs Pakistan}. Shahid Afridi holds the record for most sixes against a specific opposition – 54 vs Sri Lanka.

RT Ponting has an aggregate of 987 one day runs against India on Indian soil. He requires 13 more runs for his 1000 runs. If he gets them he would then become the first overseas batsman to score 1000 runs against on Indian soil.

RT Ponting and CL Hooper have played 24 games against on Indian soil, while ST Jayasuriya has played 25 games. Two more games for RT Ponting would give him 26^th appeafance which would make him the most capped player against India on Indian soil.
