Should he get there, he would then become 15th captain in the history of one day games to lead a team on 100 or more occasions. He would become the third Indian captain to earn the distinction after M Azharuddin {174} and SC Ganguly {147}

As the inaugural game of this edition would be between Bangladesh and India at Dhaka on 19.02.11, both the teams will be led by new captains. Bangladesh would be led by Shakib Al Hasan while India will be led by MS Dhoni. They would become the 82nd and 83rd captains to lead a team in the world cup
India will be led by MS Dhoni who also keeps wickets in this edition. MS Dhoni would become the seventh wicket keeper captain to lead a team in the world cup. RT Ponting on his way to 25 captaincy assignments will go past M Azharuddin of India who has 23 captaincy assignments. Six more captaincy assignments for RT Ponting would make him the captain with most assignments – 28 {Note – Australia plays six games in the league stages of the tournament}
It is interesting to note that the following captains who have led their respective teams in 15 or more games are yet to register a duck – RT Ponting of Australia {22 games as captain} : CH Lloyd of West Indies {17 games as captain} and N Kapil Dev of India {15 games as captain}

Harbhajan Singh {242} and Zaheer Khan {239} have captured 242 and 239 wickets in one day games representing India. They require eight and eleven wickets for their 250 wickets. If they get them, they would become the fifth and sixth bowlers to capture 250 plus wickets representing India. Others are – A Kumble {334}: J Srinath {315}: AB Agarkar {288} and N Kapil Dev {253}

If he gets them, he would become the only batsman in the annals of one day game to total 3000 plus runs against two specific teams. He has an aggregate of 3005 runs against Australia. As of now he remains the only batsman in the annals of one day games to total 3000 plus runs against a specific opposition
SR Tendulkar’s 3000 against Sri Lanka would earn him the distinction of becoming the first batsman to total 3000 plus runs against Sri Lanka

V Sehwag’s seven hundreds against New Zealand would provide the third occasion of an Indian batsman scoring seven or more hundreds against a specific opposition.
RT Ponting and V Sehwag would become the first batsman to score seven hundreds against New Zealand depending upon who gets their seventh hundred first.

RT Ponting of Australia has an aggregate of nine sixes in the World Cup against India. SB Styris of New Zealand has a total of nine sixes in the World Cup against Sri Lanka. Both these batsmen require one more six for their tenth six against the said opposition. They would become the third or fourth batsmen to score ten or more sixes against a specific opposition in the World Cup depending who scores their tenth six first. Others are – AC Gilchrist of Australia {11 sixes vs Sri Lanka} and N Kapil Dev of India

Shahid Afridi of Pakistan has scored 47 one day sixes against India. He needs three more sixes for his 50 sixes. If he gets them he would become the only batsman in the annals of one day game to score 50 plus sixes against two oppositions which is a world record. He has already scored 54 sixes against Sri Lanka.
Shahid Afridi’s feat of 50 plus sixes against India would provide the third occasion of a batsman achieving such a feat in the annals of one day games. The other two occasions are – Shahid Afridi {54 sixes vs Sri Lanka} and ST Jayasuriya of Sri Lanka {53 sixes vs Pakistan}. Shahid Afridi holds the record for most sixes against a specific opposition – 54 vs Sri Lanka.
RT Ponting has an aggregate of 987 one day runs against India on Indian soil. He requires 13 more runs for his 1000 runs. If he gets them he would then become the first overseas batsman to score 1000 runs against on Indian soil.
RT Ponting and CL Hooper have played 24 games against on Indian soil, while ST Jayasuriya has played 25 games. Two more games for RT Ponting would give him 26th appeafance which would make him the most capped player against India on Indian soil.
