SJC Broad's allround feat
SCJ Broad’s all round feat of half century and five or more wickets {6 for 91 and 61 in the Leeds test provides the 18th occasion of England cricketer to perform the all round feat of scoring a fifty and capturing five or more wickets in an innings against Australia.
W Bates and FE Woolley are the two all rounders who have captured five or more wickets in both innings. W Bates captured 7-28 and 7-74 {14-102} besides scoring 55 runs at Melbourne in Jan 1883. FE Woolley captured 5-29 and 5-20 {10-49} and scored 62 in the first innings at The Oval in Aug 1912.
IT Botham remains the only England cricketer to register twin fifties {50 and 149*} and capture five or more wickets {6-95} against Australia. His performance came at Leeds in Jul 1981. IT Botham and SCJ Broad are the two cricketers to perform the feat at Leeds.
W Bates and JE Embury are the two all rounders to capture seven wickets in an innings in this elite list. W Bates captured seven wickets in each innings {7-28 and 7-74} at Melbourne in Jan 1887, while JE Emburey’s 7-78 came at Sydney in Jan 1987. W Bates and JE Emburey’s feats have a gap of one hundred years !
PGH Fender and IT Botham are the two bowlers in the list to concede 100 plus runs. PGH Fender captured five wickets conceding 122 runs at Melbourne in Feb 1921, while IT Botham captured five wickets coneding 109 runs at Lord’s in Jun 1975.
IT Botham with his 85 and 5 for 109 remain the only cricketer in this list to perform the all round feat of scoring fifty and capture five wickets against Australia at Lord’s – the Mecca of Cricket
