At the end of India’s innings, they are on par with BC Lara of West Indies and IVA Richards of West Indies who also have scored 21 half centuries in the second innings of test match. VVS Laxman’s tally of catches against Australia stood at 30 when he caught TD Paine of Zaheer Khan for 92 in Australi’as first innings. He became the second Indian fieldsman to pouch 30 plus catches against Australia, after R Dravid who has to his credit 46 catches.

VVS Laxman became the twelfth fieldsman in the annals of test cricket to have a tally of 30 plus catches against Australia. Others are – IT Botham of Australia {57}; R Dravid of India {46}; WR Hammond of England {43}; MC Cowdrey of England {40}; WG Grace of England {39}; CL Hooper of West Indies {38}; LC Braund of England {37}; AW Greig of England {37}; W Rhodes of Australia {36}; FE Woolley of Australia {36} and; BC Lara of West Indies {34}

R Dravid’s 77 gave him his 59th half-century and 88th fifty. With 88 fifties he is on par with JH Kallis who also has scored 88 fifties and share the joint fourth place amongst the batsmen who have scored most fifties. SR Tendulkar {105}, RT Ponting {92} and AR Border {90} occupy the first three places.

R Dravid’s 77 in this test provide his 12th half century against Australia. He has an aggregate of 1914 runs against Australia. His knock provides the 10th half century against Australia while batting at number three. He earns the distinction of becoming the first batsman to score ten half centuries against Australia while batting at number three.

R Dravid became the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to score ten or more half centuries against a specific opposition while batting at number three. He achieved this feat when he scored his tenth half century against Australia by scoring 77 in this test. Other two batsmen to have achieved this feat are – IM Chappell of Australia – 12 half centuries against England and C Hill of Australia – 11 half centuries against England. RT Ponting became the fourth batsman to score 20 half centuries while batting in the first innings of a test match. Others are – AR Border of Australia {27}, SR Waugh of Australia {22} and ME Waugh of Australia {22}. This is an all-Australian record.

Both SR Tendulkar and RT Ponting have played 80 tests and 80 innings at the end of Australian first innings in this test. SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 5308 runs while RT Ponting has an aggregate of 4887 runs. He went past SR Waugh’s 4855 runs when he was on 40 during his innings of 71 in this test. RT Ponting now owns the Australian record of most runs by a batsman while batting in the first innings of a test match

SR Watson’s 126 in this game represent his highest individual test innings, an improvement over his previous best of 120 not out against Pakistan at Melbourne in Dec 2009.

V Sehwag’s 59 in this test represents his tenth fifty against Australia {3C plus 07HC}, He became the sixth Indian batsman to score ten or more fifties against Australia. Others are – SR Tendulkar {21}, VVS Laxman {16}, R Dravid {13}, GR Viswanath {13} and SM Gavaskar {12}

At the end of the second day, RT Ponting and R Dravid have an aggregate of 1858 runs and share the joint fourth place amongst the top run getters in India-Australia test series. SR Tendulkar {2748}, VVS Laxman {2204} and ML Hayden {1888} occupy the first three places in the list

V Sehwag’s 59 in this test gave him his eleventh fifty in consecutive tests. He now shares the record of most consecutive fifties in test with IVA Richards of West Indies and G Gambhir of India.

With Sehwag achieving this feat, for the first time in the annals of test cricket, a teams’ both the opening batsmen are credited with the feat – India is the team and G Gambhir and V Sehwag are the openers.

RT Ponting’s 71 in the first innings of the first test at Mohali against India gave him one more distinction. It was his 40th fifty {20 C plus 20 HC} in the first innings of a test match and with it the record for most fifties by a batsman while batting in the first innings of a test match. It is also a record for an Australian batsman in this category of statistics. He went past SR Tendulkar and SR Waugh who had scored 39 fifties. SR Tendulkar’s 39 fifties contains 20 C and 19 HC while SR Waugh’s 39 fifties contains 17 C plus 22 HC

RT Ponting became the fourth batsman to score 20 half centuries while batting in the first innings of a test match. Others are – AR Border of Australia {27}, SR Waugh of Australia {22} and ME Waugh of Australia {22}. This is an all-Australian record.

Both SR Tendulkar and RT Ponitng have played 80 tests and 80 innings. SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 5308 runs while RT Ponting has an aggregate of 4887 runs. He went past SR Waugh’s 4855 runs when he was on 40 during his innings of 71 in this test. RT Ponting now owns the Australian record of most runs by a batsman while batting in the first innings of a test match
