V Sehwag completed 7000 runs of his test career when he was on 70 during his knock of 109 in this innings. At the end of India’s first innings, his total stood at 7039. V Sehwag registered his fifth hundred against Sri Lanka when he scored 109 in this innings. This stand also represents the ninth occasion of a fifth wicket three figure partnership by Indian batsmen against Sri Lanka. It is the second occasion that Indian batsman posting a three figure partnership against Sri Lanka at Sara Oval, the first being the 162 runs partnership between SR Tendulkar and VG Kambli in Aug 1993

India gained the first innings lead over Sri Lanka in this test after Sri Lanka has scored 425 runs. India made 436 runs. This is the tenth occasion that India gained the lead over Sri Lanka after Sri Lanka. This is also the third occasion of India gaining the first innings lead after Sri Lanka has scored 400 plus runs. KC Sangakkara’s 75 in the first innings of this test represent the 100th fifty by Sri Lankan batsmen against India. DPMD Jayawardene {56} and TT Samaraweera {137*} with their fifties extended the number of fifties scored by Sri Lankan batsmen against India to 102.

KC Sangakkara earned the distinction of becoming the highest run getter at Sara Oval when he was on 8 during his knock of 75 in this game. At the end of the first innings, his run aggregate stood at 756. He went past the record of PA de Silva who had an aggregate of 688 runs.

TT Samaraweera scored 137 not out in this innings which represents his 12th test hundred. It also represents the 41st hundred by a Sri Lankan batsman against India. This knock provides TT Samaraweera’s third hundred against India. The other two are – 103* at Col-SSC in Aug 2001 and 127 at Col-SSC in Jul 2008. Thus his knock of 137 not out in this innings represents his highest individual innings against India

At the end of Sri Lanka’s first innings, MS Dhoni has effected 20 dismissals against Sri Lanka. He became the second wicket keeper to effect 20 plus dismissals in Sri Lanka-India test series. SAR Silva of Sri Lanka is the other wicket keeper to effect 22 dismissals.

At the end of Sri Lanka’s first innings, R Dravid has pouched 15 catches against Sri Lanka. M Azharuddin {27}, DPMD Jayawardene {18} and HP Tilakaratne {16} are the other fieldsmen who have pouched 15 or more catches in Sri Lanka-India test series.

PP Ojha’s conceding 115 runs in this innings represent the fourth occasion of his leaking 100 plus runs in an innings against Sri Lanka. Harbhajan Singh {08} and A Kubmble {06} are the other two bowlers who have conceded 100 plus runs in an innings on more occasions than PP Ojha.

A Mishra {140} and PP Ojha {115} conceded 100 plus runs in this innings to provide the ninth occasion of two or more Indian spin bowlers leaking 100 plus runs in a test innings against Sri Lanka.

SR Tendulkar now owns the record for most appearances in tests, when he made his appearance against Sri Lanka at Sara Oval today, in the third test of the ongoing test series. It is his 169th test and he wrested the record from SR Waugh of Australia who has made 168 test appearances

He made his test debut under the captaincy of K Srikkanth against Pakistan at Karachi in Nov 1989. He scored 15 runs on his debut.

SR Tendulkar’s world record appearance against Sri Lanka at Sara Oval in the third test of the ongoing test series has fetched another record. He earned the distinction of becoming the first cricketer to play 25 tests against Sri Lanka. He needs another 100 runs to total 2000 runs against Sri Lanka.

SR Tendulkar has already made 29 test appearances agains Australia and his 25 test appearances against Sri Lanka has made him the 20th cricketer to appear in 25 plus tests against two or more specific oppositions.

SR Tendulkar’s world record appearance against Sri Lanka at Sara Oval in the third test of the ongoing test series has fetched another record. He earned the distinction of becoming the first cricketer to play 25 tests against Sri Lanka. He needs another 100 runs to total 2000 runs against Sri Lanka.

SR Tendulkar has already made 29 test appearances agains Australia and his 25 test appearances against Sri Lanka has made him the 20th cricketer to appear in 25 plus tests against two or more specific oppositions.

SR Tendulkar is the fourth Indian test cricketers to achieve this distinction. Others are – N Kapil Dev {vs Eng – 27: vs Pak – 29 and vs Win -25}, SM Gavaskar {vs Eng – 38: vs Win – 27} and DB Vengsarkar {vs Eng – 26: vs Win – 25}

SR Tendulkar has yet another record to his credit. As India lost the toss in this test, this test is his 80th test he is playing after India had lost the toss. The previous record was held by SR Waugh in this category of statistics. He had played 79 tests after Australia had lost the toss.

TM Dilshan was playing his 100th test innings in the first innings of this test. He became the tenth Sri Lankan batsman to play 100 or more test innings. TM Dilshan’s run out dismissal in this innings provide the 23rd occasion of a Sri Lankan opening batsman dismissed run out in a test innings. It is the first run out dismissal for TM Dilshan as an opening batsman.

KC Sangakkara’s 75 in this innings provide his eighth fifty while captaining Sri Lanka. He is the fifth Sri Lankan captain to score eight or more fifties. Others are – A Ranatunga {24}, DPMD Jayawardene {17}, ST Jayasuriya {13} and LRD Mendis {08}

KC Sangakkara’s 75 in this innings represent his 53rd fifty while batting at number three. RT Ponting {71} and R Dravid {68} are the other two batsmen who have scored more number of fifties than KC Sangakkara while batting at number three.

TM Dilshan completed 800 runs against India during the course of his knock of 41 when he was on 35. At the end of the first innings TM Dilshan’s run aggregate stood at 806. He became the seventh Sri Lankan batsman to total 800 plus runs against India. At the end of the Sri Lankan first innings, DPMD Jayawardene’s run aggregate against India stood at 1817. He became the first Sri Lankan batsman to total 1800 runs against India and the second batsman to total 1800 runs in Sri Lanka-India test series after SR Tendulkar who has an aggregate of 1900 runs

DPMD Jayawardene’s 56 in this innings represent his 14th fifty against India and he shares the Sri Lanka-India test series record for most fifties jointly with SR Tendulkar who also has scored 14 fifties.

DPMD Jayewardene’s 56 in this innings represent his eighth half century against India in Sri Lanka-India test series. He went past VVS Laxman’s seven half centuries and only R Dravid with nine half centuries is ahead of DPMD Jayawardene in terms of most half centuries

DPMD Jayawardene registered his 36th half century of his test career when he scored 56 in this innings, while KC Sangakkara registered his 33rd half century when he scored 75. A Ranatunga {38} and ST Jayasuriya {31} are the other two Sri Lankan batsmen who have scored 30 or more fifties.

KC Sangakkara with his 75 in this innings which was his 56th fifty is one of the fourteen left hand batsman who have scored 50 or more fifties in tests. He is now on par with GS Sobers who also has scored 56 fifties and went past the 55 fifties scored SP Fleming and G Kirsten on his was to 56th fifty.

TT Samaraweera who completed 4000 runs in the second test at Col-SSC extended his run aggregate to 4089 runs at the end of the first day’s play. He scored his 23rd test half century and 34th fifty when he scored 65 not out.

KC Sangakkara with his 75 in this innings which was his 56th fifty is one of the 39 batsmen who have scored 50 or more fifties in tests. He is now on par with GS Sobers and Mohammad Yousuf who have scored 56 fities went past the 55 fifties scored by KF Barrington, GS Chappell, SP Fleming, G Kirsten and GP Thorpe on his was to 56th fifty.

This test match produced an aggregate of 1478 runs which stands in the third place amongst the most aggregate total in Sri Lanka-India test series. The other two are – 1598 at Ahmedabad in Nov 2009 and 1489 at Col-RPS in Aug 1997
