R Dravid pouched his 90^th catch on home soil when he caught AD Matthews of Zaheer Khan for 15 in Sri Lanka’s second innings. Dravid became the sixth fieldsman to pouch 90 plus catches on home soil. TT Samaraweera and BAW Mendis added 73 runs for the ninth wicket which represent the record stand by Sri Lankan batsmen against India. The previous best was 60 runs between HP Tilakaratne and MAWR Madurasinghe at Chandigarh in Nov 90.

Third day’s highlights

R Dravid has been dismissed run out on ten occasions in his test career including his run out dismissal in the first innings of this test. He is the sixth batsman in the annals of test cricket who have been dismissed run out on ten or more occasions. Others are – AR Border {12}, ML Hayden {12}, RT Ponting {11}, CL Hooper {10} and GS Sobers {10}

KC Sangakkara was playing his 80^th test while playing at number three. He became the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to play 80 plus tests after R Dravid of India {110} and RT Ponting of Australia {96}

AD Mathews became the 40^th Sri Lankan victim of Harbhajan Singh. A Kumble {74} and Kapil Dev {45} are the other two Indian bowlers who have captured 40 plus wickets against Sri Lanka

Zaheer Khan’s fifth maiden over in his spell represented his 450^th maiden over of his test career.

P Ojha’s captured his first test wicket was DPMD Jayawardene caught by SR Tendulkar for 47.

It was the 10^th catch for SR Tendulkar against Sri Lanka. M Azharuddin {27}, A Kumble {13} and R Dravid {10} are the other fieldsmen who have pouched 10 or more catches against Sri Lanka.

Second day’s highlights

V Sehwag, G Gambhir and R Dravid scored hundreds in India’s innings providing the tenth occasion of first three batsmen registering hundreds in a test innings. It also represents the third occasion of Indian batsmen achieving this rare feat. The other two occasions were – vs Australia at Sydney in Jan 86 and vs Bangladesh at Mirpur in May 07

V Sehwag, G Gambhir and R Dravid scored hundreds in India’s innings providing the 17^th occasion of first three batsmen registering hundreds in a test innings. It also represents the third occasion of Indian batsmen achieving such a feat. The other two occasions are – vs Australia at Sydney in Jan 86 and vs Bangladesh at Mirpur in May 07

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar added 94 runs for the third wicket. Six runs eluded them from scripting a world record of posting 17 three figure partnerships. R Draivd-SR Tendulkar, CG Greenidge-DL Haynes and ML Hayden-RT Ponting are the three pairs in the annals of test cricket who have posted 16 three figure partnerships

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar added 94 runs for the third wicket providing the 38^th occasion of fifty plus runs partnership between the two. As on date they are on par with ML Hayden-RT Ponting who also have 38 fifty plus runs stands. CG Greenidge-DL Haynes {42} and ML Hayden-JL Langer {42} are the other two pairs who have more than 38 fifty plus runs partnerships to their credit.

R Dravid completed his 28^th hundred of his test career. He was run out for 144 providing the 14^th occasion of an Indian batsman dismissed run out after registering a hundred. Dravid has been dismissed run out on four occasions after scoring a hundred.

R Dravid’s run out for 144 provides the 98^th occasion of a batsman dismissed run out after registering a hundreds. R Dravid with his run out in this game now holds the dubious record of being dismissed run out on most occasions in the annals of test cricket. He wrested the record from Sri Lanka’s TT Samaraweera who has been dismissed run out on three occasions.

Dravid at the end of this game has 66 fifties while batting at number three which puts him par with RT Ponting who also has 66 fifties to his credit while batting at number three

R Dravid at the end of India’s innings has an aggregate of 11182 runs. He surpassed AR Border’s 11174 runs and moved to fourth place among the most run getters in test cricket. SR Tendulkar {12917}, BC Lara {11953} and RT Ponting {11345} are the batsmen ahead of R Dravid in terms of test runs

India’s 642 in this innings provides the 19th occasion of India posting a total of 600 plus runs against various oppositions and the second occasion against Sri Lanka, the first occasion being its 676 for 7 in Dec 86.
