This series witnessed 50 fifties scored by batsmen – 22 by England batsmen and 28 by Indian batsmen – providing the second occasion of 50 fifties scored by batsmen in a test series. This series has produced 7187 runs to provide the second occasion of a test series a test series producing an aggregate of 7000 plus runs in the annals of test cricket,. The first occasion was in the six test Ashes series 1993 which produced 7221 runs
The 7187 runs scored in this series provided the record for most runs scored in a five test series. The previous record was 6826 runs in the five test Ashes series played in Australia in 1928-29
JE Root registered his 13th century against India to become the third batsman to score 13 or more centuries against a specific opposition in the annals of test cricket. Others are – DG Bradman – 19 against England and SM Gavaskar – 13 against West Indies
