Here is what DN Raghavendra Rao says on the first ever Ranji Match

Here is what DN Raghavendra Rao says on the first ever Ranji Match

Dear Gopal,
So, for Karnataka, it’s just three three hundreds, all in the last three years! Thank you for the info. I enjoyed Sri C K M’s story of the inaugural Ranji match between Mysore and Madras, as interesting as it is comprehensive. My congratulations to him. Here are my comments, which I request you to kindly convey to him.

Am I right in saying it is probably cricket’s ONLY First Class match which was completed in just a single day? In fact, it is eminently qualified to be called the ONLY First Class ODI ! ( if you ignore those 5 extra balls, treating them as “kosaru”!! ) That’s in lighter vein, of course. But the next day, at the railway station, the story of Players overtaking the Paper takes the cake!

Best wishes.
DNR

Sri DNR has got the  autographs of cricketers  with their  photographs. He  has the letters written to  him by DG Bradman, KR Miller and  a host of other replying  to his letters along  with their autographs.

Ranji Trophy Matches completed in one day

It has been widely believed by Indian Statistician fraternity and also world over that the only Ranji Trophy match that was completed in one day was the inaugural Ranji Trophy Match between Madras and Mysore played at Madras-Chepauk on 04.11.1934

As I was browsing through the Record Section of Association of Cricket Statisticians, I  found another  Ranji Trophy was completed in one day. It was the game between Saurashtra and Baroda played at Municipal Stadium, Rajkot on 05.12.1959

I had stated that the Karnataka-Tamilnadu encounter was the first game to be completed in two days which is incorrect. According the C Keshavamurthy – the domsestic Dada in Cricket stats, there are two more games. He was kind  enough to inform me this  through a email which is reproduced below

It has been stated that the TN/Knk match was the first RT match completed in two days – actually the TN/Knk QF match which ended in two days on 24.12.2016  provides the THIRD quarter final RTM ending in two days – of which one is a conceded match – here are the links for the other two QFs ending in two days –

http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/35/35817.html – Har/Ben at Calcutta – Ben won by ings & 4 runs

http://cricketarchive.com/Archive/Scorecards/21/21903.html – Del/Mum at Delhi – Del conceded the match

There may be other RTMs (not necessarily knock out matches) which might have ended in two days – since there are over 4500 RTMs I shall take a look and let you know when I finalise it.
