R Ashwin with his 13 for 140 in the recently concluded test against New Zealand became the fifth bowler to capture ten or more wickets on Indian test grounds hosting their first test. His figures are the best among the five bowlers. The previous best was by Visiting Pakistan bowler Fazal Mahmood who had returned with figures of 12 for 094 at Lucknow University Ground in Oct 1952. Thus it took 64 years for another bowler to rewrite  the record held by Fazal Mahmood

VV Kohli and AM Rahane scripted a record partnership for the fourth wicket by Indian batsmen when they added 365 runs for the fourth wicket in the ongoing test against New Zealand at Indore. The previous record was the 353 runs partnership between VVS Laxman and SR Tendulkar against Australia at Sydney in Jan 2004. The 365 runs partnership between V Kohli and AM Rahane for the fourth wicket in this game also represents the record partnership for the fourth wicket against New Zealand. The previous best stand was the 281 runs partnership between SC Ganguly and SR Tendulkar at Ahmedabad in Oct 1999

V Kohli became the sixth captain in the annals of test cricket to score two hundreds in the same calendar year. He scored 200 against West Indies at North Sound in Jul 2016 and followed it up with 211 against New Zealand in the ongoing test at Indore. He became the first Indian captain to accomplish such a feat.
