R Dravid’s single of MJ Johnson in 40.1 over of India’s innings gave a three run partnership for R Dravid and SR Tendulkar in their fourth wicket partnership in India’s innings and they became the third pair of batsmen to have an aggregate of 6000 plus partnership runs. At the end of third day’s play, the pair had 6076 runs from 120 innings. Other two pairs are – CG Greenidge-DL Haynes of West Indies {6482 runs from 148 innings} and ML Hayden-JL Langer of Australia {6081 runs from 122 innings}. VVS Laxman’s tally of catches against Australia stood at 30 when he caught TD Paine of Zaheer Khan for 92 in Australi’as first innings. He became the second Indian fieldsman to pouch 30 plus catches against Australia, after R Dravid who has to his credit 46 catches.

VVS Laxman became the twelfth fieldsman in the annals of test cricket to have a tally of 30 plus catches against Australia. Others are – IT Botham of Australia {57}; R Dravid of India {46}; WR Hammond of England {43}; MC Cowdrey of England {40}; WG Grace of England {39}; CL Hooper of West Indies {38}; LC Braund of England {37}; AW Greig of England {37}; W Rhodes of Australia {36}; FE Woolley of Australia {36} and; BC Lara of West Indies {34}

His knock provides the 10th half century against Australia while batting at number three. He earns the distinction of becoming the first batsman to score ten half centuries against Australia while batting at number three.

R Dravid became the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to score ten or more half centuries against a specific opposition while batting at number three. He achieved this feat when he scored his tenth half century against Australia by scoring 77 in this test. Other two batsmen to have achieved this feat are – IM Chappell of Australia – 12 half centuries against England and C Hill of Australia – 11 half centuries against England. R Dravid s became the first Indian batsman to score ten or more half centuries against a specific opposition while batting at number three.

R Dravid’s 12 half centuries against Australia provide the fifth occasion of an Indian batsman scoring 12 or more half centuries against a specific opposition. Others are – SM Gavaskar {15} vs England, SM Gavaskar {12} vs Pakistan, SR Tendulkar {12} vs Australia and GR Viswanath {12} vs England. SR Tendulkar 12th half century against Australia came in this test when he made 98.

R Dravid is one of the three batsmen in the annals of test cricket to score 10 or more fifties against three specific opponents. Others are – RB Kanhai of West Indies and RT Ponting of Australia. The feats of these three batsmen are – R Dravid – {11 fifties vs Aus ; 10 fifties vs NZl ; 10 fifties vs Srl} : RB Kahnai – {10 fifties vs Aus ; 12 fifties vs Eng ; 10 fifties vs Ind} and RT Ponting – {15 fifties vs Eng ; 15 fifties vs Eng ; 10 fifties vs Win}

SR Tendulkar scored 98 in this test, which represents his 12th half century against Australia. It was also his 57th half-century and 105th fifty.

R Dravid’s 77 and SR Tendulkar’s 98 in this test represent their 25th half centuries on home soil. They became the 10th and 11th batsmen in the annals of test cricket to score 25 or more half centuries on home soil. Others are – AR Border of {35}; RT Ponting {33}; MA Athterton {31}; JH Kallis {31}; SR Waugh {30}; S Chanderpaul {26}; GA Gooch {26}; BC Lara {26} and DPMD Jayawardene {25}

SR Tendulkar’s 98 in this test gave him his 46th fifty on home soil, He now occupies the fourth place amongst the batsmen who have scored most fifties on home soil. RT Ponting {54}, JH Kallis {49} and AR Border {48} occupy the first three places. SR Tendulkar went past SR Waugh’s 45 fifties on his way to fourth place.

SR Tendulkar’s 98 in this test represent his eighth ninety in a test innings. Others are – 96 vs Sri Lanka at Bangalore in Jan 94; 92 vs West Indies at Bridgetown in Mar 97; 97 vs South Africa at Mumbai-WS in Feb 00; 90 vs England at Bangalore in Dec 2001; 92 vs England at Nottingham in Aug 2002; 94 vs Pakistan at Mohali in Mar 2005 and 91 vs England at Nottingham in Jul 2007. Thus his 98 in this test represent the highest score amongst the eight nineties he has scored

It also represents his second ninety at Mohali, the first being his 94 against Pakistan in Mar 2005. It also represents his first ninety against Australia

SR Tendulkar with his eight nineties became the sixth batsman in the annals of test cricket to score eight or more nineties. Others are – R Dravid {10}, SR Waugh {10}, MJ Slater {09}, Inzamam-ul-Huq {08}, AI Kallicharan {08} and ML Hayden {08}

SR Tendulkar’s 98 in this test provide the 38th occasion of a batsman scoring a ninety in India-Australia test series. His knock provides the 19th occasion of and Indian batsman scoring a ninety against Australia. SR Tendulkar became the first batsman to score exact 98 in India-Australia test series

TD Paine {92} and SR Tendulkar {98} scored nineties in the first and second innings of this test providing the second such occasion in India-Australia test series. The other occasion was – KJ Hughes of Australia {92} and GR Viswanath of India {96} has scored nineties in the first and second innings of the test at Kolkata in Oct 1979.

Apart from the captioned two occasions, there is one more occasions of rival batsmen scoring nineties in a test match – MEK Hussey of Australia {90} and V Sehwag of India {92} scored nineties in the second and third innings of the test at Nagpur in Nov 2008.

R Dravid {77}, SR Tendulkar {98} and SK Raina {86} scored fifties in this test to provide the seventh occasion of four or more batsmen scoring fifties in a test innings against Australia.

SR Tendulkar and SK Raina added 124 runs for the fifth wicket in this test providing the 80th occasion of Indian batsmen posting a three-figure partnership against Australia. This stand also represents the 12th occasion of a a three-figure partnership for the fifth wicket against Australia.

This stand of 124 runs with SK Raina gave SR Tendulkar his 78th three-figure partnership. Only R Dravid {82} and RT Ponting {79} are ahead of SR Tendulkar in terms of three-figure partnerships.

This partnership of 124 runs with SK Raina gave SR Tendulkar his 20th three-figure partnership for the fifth wicket. He became the third batsman in the annals of test cricket to have 20 plus three-figure partnerships. Others are – SR Waugh {23} and SC Chanderpaul {20}

MG Johnson captured 5 for 64 in this test providing the 43rd occasion of an Australian bowler capturing five or more wickets against India.

MG Johnson’s 5 for 64 represents his sixth five wicket haul of his test career and his first against India. The other five occasions are – 8 for 61 vs South Africa in Dec 2008, 6 for 73 vs New Zealand at Hamilton in Mar 2010, 5 for 29 vs New Zealand at Brisbane in Nov 2008, 5 for 69 vs England at Leeds in Aug 2009 and 5 for 103 vs West Indies at Adelaide in Dec 2009.

V Sehwag’s 59 in this test gave him his eleventh fifty in consecutive tests. He now shares the record of most consecutive fifties in test with IVA Richards of West Indies and G Gambhir of India.

With Sehwag achieving this feat, for the first time in the annals of test cricket, a teams’ both the opening batsmen are credited with the feat – India is the team and G Gambhir and V Sehwag are the openers.

MJ Johnson was playing his 50th innings in his 37th test at Mohali – the first test of the India-Australia test series 2010. He celebrated it by completing 1000 runs of his test career. He reached the milestone when he was on 31 during his knock of 47 in this test.

His two wickets in the Indian innings gave him an aggregate of 160 test wickets and with his 1016 run aggregate with the willow, MG Johnson completed the test double – 1000 runs and 100 wickets

MG Johnson’s feat of “All rounders’ double” provide the 52nd of a cricketer performing such a feat in the annals of test cricket. His two wickets in the Indian innings gave him an aggregate of 160 test wickets and with his 1016 run aggregate with the willow, he completed the “All rounders’ double”

RT Ponting’s 71 in the first innings of the first test at Mohali against India gave him one more distinction. It was his 40th fifty {20 C plus 20 HC} in the first innings of a test match and with it the record for most fifties by a batsman while batting in the first innings of a test match. It is also a record for an Australian batsman in this category of statistics. He went past SR Tendulkar and SR Waugh who had scored 39 fifties. SR Tendulkar’s 39 fifties contains 20 C and 19 HC while SR Waugh’s 39 fifties contains 17 C plus 22 HC

RT Ponting became the fourth batsman to score 20 half centuries while batting in the first innings of a test match. Others are – AR Border of Australia {27}, SR Waugh of Australia {22} and ME Waugh of Australia {22}. This is an all-Australian record.

Both SR Tendulkar and RT Ponting have played 80 tests and 80 innings at the end of Australian first innings in this test. SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 5308 runs while RT Ponting has an aggregate of 4887 runs. He went past SR Waugh’s 4855 runs when he was on 40 during his innings of 71 in this test. RT Ponting now owns the Australian record of most runs by a batsman while batting in the first innings of a test match

SR Watson’s 126 in this game represent his highest individual test innings, an improvement over his previous best of 120 not out against Pakistan at Melbourne in Dec 2009.

TD Paine scored 92 in this test to provide the 19th occasion of an Australian batsman scoring an individual ninety against India. He became the second Australian wicket keeper batsman to score a ninety against India. IA Healy had made 90 at Chennai in Mar 1998

TD Paine registered his career best test score when he scored 92 in this innings. It was his maiden test fifty, the previous best being 47 against Pakistan at Lord’s in Jul 2010

MJ North and DE Bollinger failed to score in the first innings of this test and the number of ducks scored by Australian batsman against India stood at 136. Zaheer Khan became the ninth bowler to achieve the coveted distinction.

Harbjajan Singh returned with figures of 3 for 114 providing the 12th occasion of his conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings against Australia. Only A Kumble of India {15 occasions| has conceded 100 plus runs in a test innings against Australia more than Harbhajan Singh. Harbhajan Singh of India and T Richardson of England share the second place amongst the bowlers who have conceded 100 plus runs against Australia. Both the bowlers have conceded 100 plus runs on 12 occasions.

PP Ojha {1 for 113} and Harbhajan Singh {3 for 114} conceded 100 plus runs in this test providing the 99th and 100th occasion of Indian bowlers conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings against Australia

PP Ojha sent down 51.4 overs in this test to provide the 15th occasion of an Indian bowler bowling 50 plus overs in an innings against Australia.

MS Dhoni completed 25 dismissals against Australia when he caught MG Johnson of Zaheer Khan for 47. He became the fourth wicket keeper to effect 25 dismissals in India-Australia test series. Others are – AC Gilchrist {75}, SMH Kirmani {41} and IA Healy {26}

V Sehwag’s 59 in this test represents his tenth fifty against Australia {3C plus 07HC}, He became the sixth Indian batsman to score ten or more fifties against Australia. Others are – SR Tendulkar {21}, VVS Laxman {16}, R Dravid {13}, GR Viswanath {13} and SM Gavaskar {12}

At the end of the second day, RT Ponting and R Dravid have an aggregate of 1858 runs and share the joint fourth place amongst the top run getters in India-Australia test series. SR Tendulkar {2748}, VVS Laxman {2204} and ML Hayden {1888} occupy the first three places in the list

V Sehwag’s 59 in this test gave him his eleventh fifty in consecutive tests. He now shares the record of most consecutive fifties in test with IVA Richards of West Indies and G Gambhir of India.

With Sehwag achieving this feat, for the first time in the annals of test cricket, a teams’ both the opening batsmen are credited with the feat – India is the team and G Gambhir and V Sehwag are the openers.

Australia won the toss in this test and batted first providing the 34th occasion of Australia doing so in India-Australia test series. It also provides the 20th such occasions in tests played in India.

This test is VVS Laxman’s 25th test against Australia. He became the third Indian cricketer to appear in 25 or more tests against Australia. Others are SR Tendulkar {30} and R Dravid {27}. VVS Laxman went past two other Indian cricketers – GR Viswanath and DB Vengsarkar – who have played 24 tests against Australia

Mohali test became RT Ponting’s tenth test in which he has captained Australia against India. He is on par with RB Simpson and SR Waugh who have led Australia in ten tests against India. Only AR Border with 11 tests to his credit has led Australia in more tests against India than these three – RT Ponting, RB Simpson and SR Waugh. Thus, RT Ponting became the fourth Australian captain to lead in ten or more tests against India.

RT Ponting’s feat of captaining Australia in tests against India provides the 75th occasion of a captain leading his country in ten or more tests against an opponent. It also provides the 24th occasion of an Australian captain leading in ten or more tests against an opponent.

RT Ponting has led Australia in ten or more tests against three specific oppositions – vs Eng {15}, vs Ind {10} and vs SAF {12}.
