KGDT Prasad returned with figures of 22.0-1-106-2 providing the 33^rd occasion of a Sri Lankan bowler conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings against India.

M Muralitharan had an aggregate of 298 wickets on away soil and his three wickets in India’s first innings gave him 301 away wickets. He became the second bowler in the world to aggregate 300 wickets on away soil after SK Warne of Australia who has 362 away wickets to his credit.

M Muralitharan had an aggregate of 88 wickets against India prior to the start of the series and his three wickets in India’s first innings gave him 91 Indian wickets, He became the second bowler to capture 90 plus wickets against India, the first bowler being Imran Khan of Pakistan who has an aggregate of 94 wickets to his credit.

At the end of India’s first innings Muralitharan has 91 wickets against India. He has already captured 112 wickets against England and 104 wickets against South Africa. His 91 wickets against India game him the distinction of capturing 90 plus wickets against three specific oppositions. He became the second bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture 90 plus wickets against three or more specific oppositions, after SK Warne of Australia who has captured 90 plus wickets against four specific oppositions viz., vs England {195}, vs New Zealand {103}, vs Pakistan {90} and vs South Africa {130}.

Ishant Sharma was stumped by HAPW Jayawardne of the bowling of M Muralitharan. Ishant Sharma became the 47^th stumping victim of M Muralitharan.

TM Dilshan’s 112 represent the 174^th hundred by a Sri Lankan batsman in a test innings. His knock also represents 31^st hundred by a Sri Lankan batsman against India.

TM Dilshan’s 112 represent his tenth test hundred and he becomes the eighth Sri Lankan batsman to register ten or more test hundreds. Others are DPMD Jayawardene {26}, PA de Silva {20}, KC Sangakkara {20}, MS Atapattu {16}, ST Jayasuriya {14}, HP Tilakatatne {11} and TT Samaraweera {11}

R Dravid pouched one catch on the second day of the test to take his tally of catches against Sri Lanka to ten. He became the third Indian fieldsman to pouch ten or more catches against Sri Lanka. after M Azharuddin {27} and A Kumble {13}.

R Dravid with a catch on the second day, took his tally of 89 catches on home soil. He requires one more catches for 90 catches on home soil. If he gets there, he would become the sixth fieldsman in the annals of test cricket to pouch 90 plus catches on home soil. R Dravid, with 89 catches, shares the record of 89 catches record on home with RT Ponting and ME Waugh {both Australians}

Zaheer Khan hit two boundary fours in his knock of 12 which gave him 100 boundary fours in his test career.

DPMD Jayawardene with 36 not out at the end of the second day has taken his run aggregate against India to 1197. He needs three more runs for 1200 runs and if he gets it, he would become the second Sri Lankan batsman to aggregate 1200 plus runs against India, the first being PA de Silva {1252}

TM Dilshan and KC Sangakkara added 115 runs for the second wicket providing the 28^th occasion of Sri Lankan batsmen posting a three figure partnership against India. This stand also represents the fifth occasion of a second wicket figure partnership by Sri Lankan batsmen against India.

TM Dilshan’s 112 represents his fifth hundred in the calendar year 2009. As at the second day of this test, he has scored most hundreds in 2009. TT Samaraweera of Sri Lanka, RR Sawan of West Indies and AJ Strauss of England are the three batsmen who have scored four hundreds in 2009.

At the end of the second day of this test, TM Dilshan has aggregated 961 runs in 2009 and requires 39 more runs for 1000 runs in 2009. TT Samaraweera {1128} and AJ Strauss {1071} are the only two batsmen who have an aggregate of 1000 plus runs in 2009

TM Dilshan earned the distinction of becoming the third Sri Lankan batsman to score five or more hundreds in a calendar year. The other two are – PA de Silva {seven hundreds in 1997} and DPMD Jayawardene {five hundreds in 2007}

KC Sangakkara became the seventh Sri Lankan captain to lead Sri Lanka against India, while MS Dhoni became the ninth Indian captain to lead against Sri Lanka

MS Dhoni with his 110 emulated SM Gavaskar and SR Tendulkar who have registered hundreds on their first captaincy assignment against Sri Lanka. SM Gavaskar has scored 155 at Chennai in Sep 82, SR Tendulkar had made 143 at Col-RPS in Aug 97.

MS Dhoni’s 110 represent the 154^th hundred scored by a wicket keeper batsman in the annals of test cricket. It also represents the seventh hundred by wicket keeper batsman against Sri Lanka.

He added 125 runs for the fifth wicket with Yuvraj Singh and 224 runs for the sixth wicket with MS Dhoni. First Day’s highlights

India won the toss in this game providing the 20^th occasion of India winning the toss in India-Sri Lanka Test series. Out of the previous 19 encounters, when India had won the toss, India has won nine tests, lost two tests and eights tests were drawn

India is playing its tenth test at Motera, Ahmedabad. Out of the previous nine tests, it has won three tests, lost two tests and four tests were drawn.

SR Tendulkar equaled the series record of 20 appearances held by A Ranatunga of Sri Lanka. Ahmedabad test was SR Tendulkar’s 20^th appearance against Sri Lanka. SR Tendulkar became the first Indian cricketer to play 20 tests against Sri Lanka.

Karnataka denied themselves of a possible victory by not scoring fast at the beginning of the fourth day and to some extent the decision of the umpires too marred the chances of carving out a victory and had to be satisfied for a drawn encounter.

This is the third successive match which has failed to produce an outright result between the two teams, after Karnataka’s victory by 167 runs in 2005/06 at B’lore in 2005/06. In 2006/07, the match had ended in a draw – Karnataka gaining the vital first innings lead. In 2007/08 also the match ended in a draw with the rain interruption. It is a strange thing that while so much publicity is given to the records made in tests/one day internationals, the records achieved by Indian Cricketers in domestic cricket are not given its due

Recently in the first leg of the Ranji Trophy matches this season, Karnataka’s A Mithun and Delhi’s P Bisht, accomplished rare individual feats. Though their names with their feats get automatically added to the record books, not much is spoken of them or highlighted either in the Print media and in electronic media, although their feat deserve special mention and publicity.

Karnataka’s Abhimanyu Mukund performed a hat trick and also took 11 wickets in the match against Uttar Pradesh at Meerut which is a rare feat – but his record was not given as much prominence as it deserved.

The Ranji Trophy record for most dismissals in an innings is eight and is credited to S Nath of Assam who on debut against Tripura at Guwahathi in 2001/02 effected held seven catches and effected a stumping.

MSK Prasad of Andhra, P Bisht of Delhi, VR Samant of Mumbai and VST Naidu of Karnataka are the four wicket keepers who have effected nine or more dismissals in a Ranji Trophy match on two occasions. P Bisht, prior to his feat of nine dismissals against Vadodara, this season has effected nine dismissals {all caught} against Saurashtra at Rajkot in 2008-09

SR Tendulkar with 19 test appearances against Sri Lanka prior to the start of the test series require one more appearance to equal the series record of 20 appearances held by A Ranatunga of Sri Lanka. The first test at Ahmedabad would give SR Tendulkar his 20^th appearance against Sri Lanka. SR Tendulkar would become the first Indian cricketer to play 20 tests against Sri Lanka.

R Dravid would be playing his 15^th test against Sri Lanka and would join the select band cricketers who have played 15 or more tests in India-Sri Lanka test series – A Ranatunga of Sri Lanka {20}, PA de Silva of Sri Lanka {19}, SR Tendulkar of India {19}, A Kumble of India {18}, M Muralitharan of Sri Lanka {18} and M Azharuddin of India {17}

R Dravid with 980 runs prior to the start of the series, require 20 more runs for his 1000 runs aggregate against Sri Lanka. If he gets there, he would join the following batsmen who have scored 1000 plus runs in India-Sri Lanka test series. Dravid would become the fourth Indian batsman to aggregate 1000 plus runs against Sri Lanka

SR Tendulkar with 1408 runs to his credit prior to the start of the series require 92 runs for his 1500 runs aggregate against Sri Lanka. If he gets there, he would earn the distinction of not only becoming the first batsman to aggregate 1500 runs in India-Sri Lanka test series, but also the first Indian batsman to aggregate 1500 runs against Sri Lanka.

M Jayawardene with 1161 runs to his credit prior to the start of the series require 92 runs to surpass PA de Silva’s run aggregate of 1252 runs against India, which is now the highest aggregate of runs by a Sri Lankan batsman against India. If M Jayawardene gets there he would wrest the record from PA de Silva.

SR Tendulkar has scored ten fifties {07 C plus 03 HC} and require one more fifty to equal the series record of 11 fifties held by M Jayawardene {04 C plus 05 HC}

R Dravid with nine fifties to his credit {01 C plus 08 HC} require one more fifty for his tenth fifty and would become the third batsman after M Jayawardene and SR Tendulkar who have scored ten or more fifties.

M Jayawardene require one more half century to take his tally of half centuries against India to eight which would put him on par with R Dravid who also has eight half centuries to his credit. R Dravid’s eight half centuries is a series record for most half centuries.

It is interesting to note that SR Tendulkar is yet to score a zero against Sri Lanka in a test innings. He has played 19 tests and 27 innings against Sri Lanka prior to the start of the series.

M Jayawardene require one more hundred to take his tally of hundreds against India to five. If he gets there, he would be on par with PA de Silva who has scored five hundreds against India which is a record for most hundreds by a Sri Lankan batsman against India.

SR Tendulkar has scored seven hundreds against Sri Lanka prior to the start of the series. One more hundred would give him his eighth hundred against Sri Lanka. He has already scored ten hundreds against Australia. His eighth hundred against Sri Lanka would make him the second Indian batsman to score eight or more hundreds against two specific oppositions. The other batsman is SM Gavaskar who has scored 13 hundreds against West Indies and 08 hundreds against Australia.

SR Tendulkar would also become the fifth batsman in the world to score eight or more hundreds against two specific oppositions. The other four are GS Sobers of West Indies, IVA Richards of West Indies, RT Ponting of Australia and SM Gavaskar of India

SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 4999 runs while batting at number four on home soil. He requires just one run for an aggregate of 5000 runs. He would become the first batsman to aggregate 5000 runs on home soil while batting at number four.

SR Tendulkar has played 159 tests prior to the start of this series. Ahmedabad test would give him 160 test appearances. He would become the second cricketer in the annals of test cricket to play 160 plus tests after SR Waugh of Australia who has 168 test appearances to his credit.

R Dravid has scored 64 fifties while batting at number three in a test innings. Two more fifties would take his tally of fifties to 66 which would put him on par with RT Ponting who has 66 fifites while batting at number three.

Ahmedabad Test would be the 70^th test at home for SR Tendulkar. He would become the first Indian cricketer to play 70 tests at home. Others who have played 70 plus tests at home are – SR Waugh of Australia {89}, AR Border of Australia {86}, GA Gooch of England {74}, AJ Stewart of England {74}, RT Ponting of Australia {73}, M Muralitharan of Sri Lanka {72} and JH Kallis of South Africa {72}. Thus SR Tendulkar would become the eighth cricketer in the annals of test cricket to appear in 70 plus tests at home.

M Muralitharan has an aggregate of 298 wickets on away soil and require two more wickets for his 300 away wickets. If he gets there, he would become the second bowler in the world to aggregate 300 wickets on away soil after SK Warne of Australia who has 362 away wickets to his credit.

M Muralitharan has an aggregate of 88 wickets against India prior to the start of the series and require two more wickets for his 90 wickets. If he gets there, he would become the second bowler to capture 90 plus wickets against India, the first bowler being Imran Khan of Pakistan who has an aggregate of 94 wickets to his credit.

M Muralitharan of Sri Lanka, IT Botham of England, Imran Khan of Pakistan and MD Marshall of West Indies are the four bowlers who have captured five or more wickets on six occasions against India. One more five wicket haul of M Muralitharan in the ensuing series would give him the seventh five wickets haul in an innings against India and with it the record for most five wicket hauls in an innings against India.

AV Bedser of England, RJ Hadlee of New Zealand, Imran Khan of Pakistan, GD McKenzie of Australia, M Muralitharan of Sri Lanka and Saqlain Mushtaq of Pakistan are six bowlers who have captured ten or more wickets in a match against India on two occasions. One more ten wicket haul for Muralitharan in the ensuing series would give him the third ten wicket haul in a match against India and with it the record for most ten wicket hauls in a match against India.

Two more wickets for M Muralitharan would give him 90 wickets against India. He has already captured 112 wickets against England and 104 wickets against South Africa. 90 wickets against India would give him 90 plus wickets against three specific oppositions. He would become the second bowler in the annals of test cricket to capture 90 plus wickets against three or more specific oppositions, after SK Warne of Australia who has captured 90 plus wickets against four specific oppositions viz., vs England {195}, vs New Zealand {103}, vs Pakistan {90} and vs South Africa {130}.

SR Tendulkar-R Dravid, CG Greenidge-DL Haynes and ML Hayden-RT Ponting share 16 three figure partnerships, which is a record for most partnerships between two batsmen in the annals of test cricket. One more three figure partnership between SR Tendulkar and R Dravid would give the pair the 17 three figure partnership and with it the world record for most partnerships between two batsmen.

Indian batsmen have posted 198 fifty plus runs partnerships for the first wicket against various oppositions {66 three figure partnerships plus 132 half century partnerships}. Two more fifty plus partnerships would give India 200 fifty plus partnerships for the first wicket.

SR Tendulkar-R Dravid has an aggregate of 5507 runs in 111 partnerships. They need 493 runs to complete 6000 runs. If they get there, they would become the third pair of batsmen in the annals of test cricket to aggregate 6000 plus runs. Other pairs are CG Greenidge-DL Haynes of West Indies {6482 runs} and ML Haydne-J Langer of Australia {6081}

R Dravid has pouched nine catches against Sri Lanka and require one more catch to take his tally to ten catches. He would become the third Indian fieldsman to pouch ten or more catches against Sri Lanka. Other two are M Azharuddin {27} and A Kumble {13}. SR Tendulkar with eight catches against Sri Lanka prior to the start of the series, requires two more catches for his ten catches.

R Dravid has a tally of 88 catches on home soil. He requires two more catches for 90 catches on home soil. If he gets there, he would become the sixth fieldsman in the annals of test cricket to pouch 90 plus catches on home soil. Others are MA Taylor of Australia {97}, SP Fleming of New Zealand {94}, BC Lara of West Indies {94}, DPMD Jayawardene {92}, JH Kallis of South Africa {91}

R Dravid, if he gets to 90 catches, he would go past the 89 catches record on home soil held by RT Ponting and ME Waugh {both Australians}

DPMD Jayawardene has a tally of 12 catches against India and would require five more catches to become the Sri Lankan fieldsman with most catches against India. The present record is 16 catches and is credited to HP Tilakaratne.

M Muralitharan require two more catches to join HP Tilakaratne {16}. DPMD Jayawardene {12} and MS Atapattu {10} who have a tally of ten or more catches against India.

EJG Morgan scored 85 not out in the T20I game between England and South Africa at Johannesburg on 13.11.09, while Umar Akmal came up with 56 not out in the game between Pakistan and New Zealand at Dubai on 13.11.09 providing the 40^th occasion of a batsman remaining not out after scoring a fifty in the history of T20I games.
