SPD Smith of Australia scored 211 in the ongoing test at Manchester against England to provide the 372nd occasion of a batsman scoring a double century in an innings in the annals of test cricket. It also provides the 342nd occasion  of a batsman scoring a double century excluding a quadruple century and 29 triple hundreds

Interesting enough, the first ever double century in a test innings was also 211. It was also by an Australian batsman against England WL Murdoch scored 211 against England at The Oval in Aug 1884, the test having a start date of 11 Aug 1884. V Kohli  has scored nine centuries in his winning tests and one more century would fetch him his  tenth century. If he gets it in his winning test, he would then become the fifth captain to score ten or more centuries in winning tests. Others are GC Smith {16}, RT Ponting {14}. DG Bradman {12} and SR Waugh {11}. V Kohli also would earn the distinction of becoming the first Indian captain to score ten centuries in his winning tests
