It is interesting to note that this elite list contains only Indian captain opener SM Gavaskar. SM Gavaskar scored 205 against West Indies at Mumbai in Dec 1978. Yours truly was indeed lucky to witness this innings from Akashavani Commentary booth as a statistician for the commentary team.

SM  Gavaskar was the eighth captain to opener to score 200 plus runs in a test innings and also the fourth captain opener to score 200 plus runs in a test innings against West Indies after L Hutton  of England, RB Simpson of Australia and WM Lawry of Australia.

A few records beckon these batsmen. V Kohli needs 51 runs for his 6000 runs. If he scores them, then he would become the first batsman in the tournament to aggregate 6000 plus runs.

SK Raina and DA Warner have scored 199 and 198 boundary sixes in the tournament. They need one and two more boundary sixes for their 200 boundary sixes. If they score them, then they would become the seventh and eighth batsmen to score 200 plus boundary sixes in the tournament. CH Gayle {352} and AB de Villiers {240}, RG Sharma {220}, MS Dhoni {216}, KA Pollard {201} and V Kohli {201} are the other six batsmen who have scored 200 plus boundary sixes in the tournament.

RG Sharma has played 199 innings in the tournament so far and requires one more innings would fetch him his 200th innings and with it the record of becoming the first batsman to play 200 innings in the tournament.

SK Raina has scored 498 boundary fours in the tournament and requires two more boundary fours for his 500 boundary fours. If he scores them, then he would become the fourth batsman in the tournament to score 500 plus boundary fours. Others are – S Dhwan {620}, DA Warner {519} and V Kohli {512}

SK Raina has an aggregate of 5448 runs so far in the tournament and require 52 more runs for his 5500 runs in the tournament.

KD Karthik has played 199 matches in the tournament. One more game would fetch him 200 matches and with it he would become the third batsman to appear in 200 plus matches  in IPL. Others are MS Dhoni {207} and RG Sharma {204}
