An interesting coincidence

An interesting coincidence

Azhar Ali of Pakistan scored 302 not out against West Indies in the ongoing test at Dubai-DSC to provide the second occasion of a Pakistan opening batsman scoring 300 plus runs in a test innings. Both occasions are listed below chronologically. By an interesting coincidence both the Pakistan batsman have chosen West Indies as their opponent while accomplishing the feat. It took 58 years for Azhar Ali to emulate Hanif Mohammad in scoring a triple hundred

One more coincidence that is noted with interest is that when these two Pakistan opening batsmen scored triple hundreds, their opening partners were dismissed in nineties. When Hanif Mohammad scored 337, his opening partner Imtiaz Ahmed was dismissed for 91 against West Indies at Bridgetown in Jan 1958. When Azhar Ali scored 302 not out, his opening partner Sami Aslam was dismissed for 90 against West Indies in the ongoing test at Dubai-DSC in Oct 2016

15 Azhar Ali 302* 1 Pak Win Dubai (DSC) 13 Oct 2016

Azhar Ali of Pakistan scored 302 not out against West Indies in the ongoing test at Dubai-DSC to provide the second occasion of a Pakistan opening batsman scoring 300 plus runs in a test innings. All such occasions are listed below chronologically. By an interesting coincidence both the Pakistan batsman have chosen West Indies as their opponent while accomplishing the feat. It took 58 years for Azhar Ali to emulate Hanif Mohammad in scoring a triple hundred

No Player Runs Inns Team Oppn Ground Start Date
1 Hanif Mohammad 337 3 Pak Win Bridgetown 17 Jan 1958
2 Azhar Ali 302* 1 Pak Win Dubai (DSC) 13 Oct 2016

One more coincidence that is noted with interest is that when these two Pakistan opening batsmen scored triple hundreds, their opening partners were dismissed in nineties. When Hanif Mohammad scored 337, his opening partner Imtiaz Ahmed was dismissed for 91 against West Indies at Bridgetown in Jan 1958. When Azhar Ali scored 302 not out, his opening partner Sami Aslam was dismissed for 90 against West Indies in the ongoing test at Dubai-DSC in Oct 2016
