He became the 89^th batsman in the annals of test cricket to score a hundred on debut. He is the eighth New Zealand batsman to score a hundred on debut. JD Ryder {103} and KS Williamson {131} scored hundreds in this innings to provide the 34^th and 35^th occasion of New Zealand batsmen scoring hundreds against India.

JD Ryder registered his third test hundred – all his three hundreds coming against India. The other two occasions are – 201 at Napier in Mar 2009 and 102 at Hamilton in Mar 2009.

Harbhajan Singh conceded 100 plus runs in India’s first innings to provide the 26^th occasion of an Indian bowler conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings against New Zealand.

Harbhajan Singh conceded 100 plus runs in India’s first innings to provide the 39^th occasion of his conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings. He is now on par with Danish Kaneria of Pakistan who also has conceded 100 plus runs in a test innings on 39 occasions. Only M Muralitharan {61}, A Kumble {57} and SK Warne {40} have conceded 100 plus runs on more occasions than Danish Kaneria and Harbhajan Singh

PP Ojha conceded 100 plus runs in India’s first innings to provide the 27^th occasion of an Indian bowler conceding 100 plus runs in a test innings against New Zealand.

DL Vettori had an aggregate of 3962 runs prior to the start of the test series. He required 38 more runs for his 4000 runs. He scored 41 runs in New Zealand’s first innings

and his aggregate stood at 4005. He became the fifth New Zealand batsman to total 4000 test runs. Others are – SP Fleming {7172}, MD Crowe {5444}, JG Wright {5334} and NJ Astle {4072}

DL Vettori’s 4005 runs and 329 wickets became the third all round cricketer in the annals of test cricket tp score 4000 plus runs and capture 300 test wickets. Others are – N Kapil Dev {5248 runs and 434 wickets} and IT Botham {5200 runs and 383 wickets}

DL Vettori had an aggregate of 490 runs against India prior to the start of the test series. He required ten more runs for his 500 runs. He scored 41 runs in New Zealand’s first innings and at the end of New Zealand’s first innings, his aggregate stood at 531. He became the tenth New Zealand batsman to total 500 plus runs against India. PP Ojha bowled 53 overs in this innings to provide the 13^th occasion of an Indian bowler bowling fifty plus overs in an innings against New Zealand.

G Gambhir scored zero in India’s second innings providing the 68th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring zero against New Zealand. It also provides the 12^th occasion of an Indian opening batsman scoring a duck against New Zealand.

V Sehwag was dismissed run out in India’s second innings providing the 21^st occasion of Indian batsman dismissed run out against New Zealand. It also provides the sixth occasion of an Indian opening batsman scoring a duck against New Zealand.

V Sehwag was dismissed run out for the second time against New Zealand as an opening batsman. The first occasion was at Hamilton in Mar 2009 when he was run out after scoring 24. V Sehwag is the second Indian opening batsman to be dismissed run out on two occasions, the other being S Abid Ali

DL Vettori shared the new ball in New Zealand’s second innings to provide the second occasion of a left arm spin bowler sharing the new ball. The first occasion was at Bangalore in Nov 1988, when EH Gray had shared the new ball.

India lost three wickets for two runs in its second innings to provide the fourth occasion of a team losing three wickets with two runs on the board. The other three occasions are – 3 for 2 – England vs South Africa at Cape Town in Mar 1910, 3 for 2 – England vs South Africa at Jo’burg in Nov 1999 and 3 for 2 – New Zealand vs South Africa at Jo’burg in May 2006.

India lost four wickets for 15 runs in its second innings to provide the sixth occasion of a team losing four wickets with 15 runs on the board. First Test – Third day

BB McCullum scored fifty {65} which represent the 127^th occasion of a New Zealand bowler scoring a fifty against India. His knock represents the 34^th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a fifty against India. It is BB McCullum’s first fifty on Indian soil and represents his 17th half century of his test career. At the end of his innings, his run aggregate stood at 2927

LRPL scored fifty {56} which represent the 128^th occasion of a New Zealand bowler scoring a fifty against India. His knock represents the 35^th occasion of a New Zealand batsman scoring a fifty against India. It is LRPL Taylor’s first fifty on Indian soil and represents his tenth half century of his test career. At the end of his innings, his run aggregate stood at 1997 and is three runs shy for his 2000 career runs.

BB McCullum and LRPL Taylor added 104 runs for the third wicket in this test to provide the 45^th occasion of New Zealand batsmen posting a three figure stand against India. This stand also represents the tenth occasion of New Zealand batsman posting a three figure partnership for the third wicket against India.

MS Dhoni effected the 24^th stumping of his test career, when he stumped BB McCullum of PP Ojha for 65. Coupled with 128 catches, MS Dhoni has an aggregate of 152 victims.

BB McCullum became the 14^th New Zealand batsman to be dismissed stumped against India. He is the fifth New Zealand batsman to be dismissed stumped after scoring a fifty. Ohtera are – GT Dowling for 239 at Christchurch in Feb 1968, BE Congdon for 58 at Christchurch in Feb 1976, GM Turner for 64 at Wellington in Feb 1976 and NJ Astle for 103 at Ahmedabad in Oct 2003.

Harbhajan Singh has taken 34 wickets against New Zealand as the third day of Ahmedabad test. He is on par with SP Gupte who also has captured 34 wickets against New Zealand. Others to capture more than 34 wickets are – BS Bedi {57}, EAS Prasanna {55}, A Kumble {50} and S Venkataraghavan {36}

BB McCullum’s stumped dismissal in this test provides the 93^rd occasion of a New Zealand batsman dismissed stumped in a test innings. It is the second occasion for BB McCullum dismissed stumped in a test innings, the first occasion was against Australia at Brisbane for 10 in Nov 2004.

JD Ryder and KS Williamson added 194 for the fourth wicket in this test to provide the 46^h occasion of New Zealand batsmen posting a three figure stand against India. This stand also represents the fifth occasion of New Zealand batsman posting a three figure partnership for the fourth wicket against India. When DL Vettori captured his fourth wicket in India’s innings – that of Harbhajan Singh caught by wicket keeper G Hopkins for 69 – he captured his 100^th wicket as captain. He joined the select band of seven other captains – furnished in the list below – to capture 100 wickets as captain.
