MS Dhoni effected his 71^st dismissal {61 ct plus 10 st} as captain-cum-wicket keeper when he caught BB McCullum of S Sreesanth for 4 in the second test between India and New Zealand at Hyderabad. He now owns the record for most dismissals as captain-cum-wicket keeper in the annals of test cricket. He wrested the record form FCM Alexander of West Indies who had 70 dismissals. Hyderabad would become the nineteenth city to host tests on two or more grounds, when it hosts the second test match between India and New Zealand at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on 12.11.10. Hyderabad has hosted tests at Lal Bahadur Shastry Stadium.

The second test match between India and Hyderabad is slated to be played from 12^th November 2010. The ground would be Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. This ground would become the 102nd ground in the annals of test cricket to host a test match. The test match between Pakistan and South Africa also begins 12.11.10 at Dubai International Stadium, another new ground.

The numbering is always done as per the alphabetical order in case two matches start on the same day. In the present instances two tests are played at Dubai and Hyderabad. Dubai comes first in the alphabetical order and hence numbered 101. Hyderabad comes next to Dubai in the alphabetical order and is numbered 102

Approaching milestones ahead of Second Test at Hyderabad

SR Tendulkar who has an aggregate of 6473 runs prior to the start of the second test require 27 runs for his 6500 runs on home soil. If he gets them he would be the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 6500 plus runs on home soil, the first being RT Ponting of Australia who has amassed 6790 runs.

SR Tendulkar who has scored 48 fifties {22 C plus 26 HC} requires to more fifties for 50 fifties on home soil. If he gets them, he would become the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 50 fifties. RT Ponting of Australia is the other batsman with 54 fifties {21 C plus 33 HC} to his credit. SR Tendulkar would become the first Indian batsman to score fifty fifties on home soil.

Prior to the start of the second test, SR Tendulkar and R Dravid have scored 26 and 25 half centuries on home soil respectively. R Dravid would require one more half century to catch up with SR Tendulkar, provided the latter does not score a fifty

Prior to the start of the second tests, SR Tendulkar and R Dravid have scored eleven fifties each against New Zealand. One more fifty to either of them, would give them the record of most fifties against New Zealand

SR Tendulkar havs scored four hundreds against New Zealand. One more hundred to him would put him on par with R Dravid who has scored five hundreds and holds the record of most hundreds by an Indian batsman against New Zealand.

SR Tendulkar has an aggregate of 1458 runs against New Zealand prior to the start of the series. He requires 42 runs more to reach 1500 runs. If he gets them, he would become the first Indian batsman to total 1500 runs against New Zealand. He would become the third batsman after Javed Miandad {1919} and AR Border {1500} to total 1500 runs against New Zealand. R Dravid has an aggregate of 1423 runs against New Zealand and require 77 more runs for his 1500 runs

R Dravid and SR Tendulkar have scored eleven fifties against New Zealand prior to the start of the series, requires one more fifty to occupy the second place amongst the batsmen who have scored most fifties against New Zealand. Javed Miandad of Pakistan with 13 fifties to his credit occupies the first place.

Two more fifties to SR Tendulkar and R Dravid would give him 13 fifties against New Zealand and with it they share the record for most fifties against New Zealand jointly with Javed Miandad of Pakistan who also has scored 13 fifties.

SR Tendulkar has scored four hundreds against New Zealand. One more hundred would give him five hundreds. If he gets it, he would join the following batsmen who have scored five or more hundreds against New Zealand – Javed Miandad of Pakistan {07}, AR Border of Australia {05}, JH Kallis of South Africa {05}, Shoaib Mohammad of Pakistan {05} and R Dravid of India {05}

R Dravid-SR Tendulkar pair has 6158 partnership runs and require 325 more runs would give them 6483 runs and with it the most partnership runs. They would wrest the record from CG Greendige-DL Haynes who has 6482 partnership runs

Prior to the start of the test, R Dravid-SR Tendulkar, CG Greenidge-DL Haynes and ML Hayden-JL Langer pair have 42 partnerships of 50 plus runs. One more fifty plus partnership to R Dravid-SR Tendulkar pair would give them 43 fifty plus runs partnership and with it the world record of most fifty plus runs partnerships in the annals of test cricket

R Dravid-SR Tendulkar pair has 24 half century partnerships prior to the start of the test. One more half century partnership would give them 25 half century partnerships. They would become the third pair in the annals of test cricket to post 25 plus half century stands. Other pairs are – ML Hayden-JL Langer {28} and CG Greenidge-ST Jayasuriya {26}

R Dravid and AL Wadekar share the Indian record of most catches against New Zealand with 16 catches. One more catch for Dravid would give him 17 catches and with it the record of most catches by an Indian fieldsman against New Zealand.

Harbhajan Singh-R Dravid {bower-fielder combination} has accounted for 49 batsmen prior to the start of the test series. One more catch for Dravid of Harbhajan Singh’s bowling would give the combination 50^th victim. Dravid would then earn a unique record in the annals of test cricket. He would become the only fieldsman in the annals of test cricket to pouch 50 catches of two bowlers. He has already taken 55 catches of A Kumble.

One more wicket for Harbhjan Singh-R Dravid would combination would give them 50 wickets and they would become the fourth pair in the annals of test cricket to have 50 plus wickets. Others are – M Muralitharan-DPMD Jayawardene {77}, A Kumble-R Dravid {55} and SK Warne-MA Taylor {51}

Hyderabad Test would be DL Vettori’s 14^th test against India and he would be on par with RJ Hadlee. Nagpur test would be DL Vettori’s 15^th test against India which would give him the record of most appearances against India.

R Dravid with 198 catches to his credit prior to the start of the test require two more catches for 200 catches. If he gets there, he would become the first fieldsman in the annals of test cricket to pouch 200 catches.

PJ Wiseman and Zaheer Khan hold the record for most ducks in India-New Zealand test series. One more duck for Zaheer Khan would give him a record for most ducks in the test series.

Zaheer Khan who has captured five wickets hauls on three occasions against New Zealand prior to the start of the test require one more haul to equal the Indian record of four five wicket hauls held by BS Bedi, SP Gupte and EAS Prasanna. RJ Hadlee of New Zealand is the other bowler to capture four five wicket hauls in India-New Zealand test series.

R Dravid has scored 59 half centuries prior to the start of this test, require one more half century for his 60^th half century. If he gets it h
e would become the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 60 plus fifties, after AR Border who has scored 63 half centuries. SR Tendulkar has scored 59 half centuries

SR Tendulkar has scored 49 hundreds prior to the test, require one more hundred for his 50^th test hundred. If he gets it, he would then become the first batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 50 hundreds.

SR Tendulkar has scored 48 half centuries while batting at number four. Two more fifties would give him a record of becoming the first batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 50 fifties while batting at number four.

SR Tendulkar and R Dravid have been dismissed “bowled” on 45 and 44 occasions respectively. One more bowled dismissal for R Dravid would put him on par with SR Tendulkar and with it they share the Indian record of most bowled dismissals.

R Dravid has scored 24 hundreds while batting at number three. One more hundred would give him his 25^th hundred. If he gets it, he would become the second batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 25 or more hundreds while batting at number three, after RT Ponting who has scored 32 hundreds.

Cricket : Karnataka State Cricket Association Elections – Kumble, Srinath and Venkatesh Prasad to contest Elections

Karanataka State Cricket Association’s Elections for the term 2010-2013 is slated for 21st November 2010. Brijesh Patel, incumbent secretary for the last twelve years is not contesting the elections this time. Instead, he and his faction has decided to support Anil Kumble who is contesting for the post of President, Venkatesh Prasad who is contesting for the post of Vice President and Javagal Srinath who is contesting for the post of Secretary. Brijesh Patel has issued a Press release in this regard which is produced below

The elections of the KSCA for the new term 2010-2013 is being held on 21st Nov 2010.

I had the honour of serving the Karnataka State Cricket Association as its Hon Secretary for the past twelve years. I contributed to the Association in all my might and put my heart and soul to the growth and development of the association during these years. Now, I have decided to step aside and not contest the ensuing elections and support the young distinguished test cricketers Anil Kumble, Javagal Srinath, Rahul Dravid and others in the coming elections who have pledged to take KSCA forward in the coming challenging years.

We cricketers, GR VIswanath, Syed Kirmani, Roger Binny, Sudhakar Rao, J Abhiram, others and myself came together in 1998 to contribute to KSCA ‘s growth and prosperity . We put in our best efforts collectively for the past twelve years with utmost sincerity with the interest of the institution as our single goal.

With the changing times I’m of the firm belief that fresh energy, new ideas and young feet are always good for an institution. We at Karnataka are indeed lucky that we have living cricketing legends Anil Kumble, Rahul Dravid, Javagal Srinath and others who are willing to sacrifice their time and energy to take Karnataka cricket forward.

I’ve seen these cricketers closely and I’ve immense faith and utmost confidence in their ability and commitments to make KSCA a model association not only of the country but also of the world.

In this context I and my team have decided to extent unstinted support to this cause. I also hereby appeal to all members of the KSCA to support this young team who will definitely bring glory to Karnataka cricket.

I’ve also assured my unconditional support by way of my experience and knowledge in the coming years to this young team. This shall be my way of continuing to contribute to this noble institution form outside. I wish them all the best in their endeavor

India lost five wickets for 15 runs in its second innings against New Zealand at Ahmeabad in the just concluded first test. India’s ignominy in this test provides the tenth occasion of a team losing five wickets for a score under 16 runs in the annals of test cricket.

Harbhajan Singh scored 69 and 115 in this test to provide the 13^th occasion of an Indian batsman scoring fifties in both innings of a test against New Zealand.

VVS Laxman’s 91 plus in the second innings of this test represents his 47th test half century and 63^rd fifty.

Harbhajan Singh with his 69 and 115 became the third Indian batsman to score fifties in both innings of a test against New Zealand at Ahmedabad. Others are – 125 and 53 by SC Ganguly in Oct 1999 and 222 and 73 by R Dravid in Oct 2003.

VVS Laxman {91} and Harhajan Singh {115} scored fifties in India’s second innings providing the 50^th and 51^st occasion of Indian batsman scoring fifties in its second innings against New Zealand

DL Vettori deployed BB McCullum to bowl the last over before Lunch on the final day, which was his fist over of his test career and in representative International cricket.

LRPL Taylor captured his first test wicket when he had Harbhajan Singh caught by BJ Watling for 115. He returned with figures of 4.4.-2-4-2 in second innings of this test. His second wicket was that of S Sreesanth whom he had caught by Hopkins for 4.

Zaheer Khan collected the first ball duck in this game to provide the 119^th occasion of an Indian batsman collecting the first ball duck in an innings. His first ball duck provide the tenth occasion of Indian batsman suffering such an ignominy against New Zealand. This the second occasion of Zaheer Khan collecting the first ball duck against New Zealand, the first occasion being at Mohali in Oct 2003. Zaheer Khan became the second Indian batsman after N Kapil Dev to collect the first ball duck on two occasions.

TG McIntosh collected a pair in this to provide the 59^th occasion of a New Zealand batsman to suffer such an ignominy in tests. His pair in this test provides the seventh occasion of New Zealand opening batsman collecting a pair in a test match.
