Bangladesh won their second test when they beat West Indies by 95 runs. It was their second win in 60 outings and first on away soil. Bangladesh’s first test win was against Zimbabwe at Chittagong in Jan 05. They had won this test by 226 runs
West Indies had seven test debutants in this test providing the second occasion of West Indies having seven test debutants in a test. The other occasion was at England at Bridgwtown in 1947-48.
O Phillips scored 94 runs on his test debut providing the 27th occasion of a batsman scoring ninety on test debut. He is the 11th opening batsman in the word the second West Indian opening batsman to achieve the distinction. The other West Indian openers who was dimissed in nineties was CG Greenidge who scored 93 on debut against India at Bangalore in Nov 1974.
O Phillips is the sixth West Indian batsman to register a ninety on test debut. The others five batsmen are – JH Stollmeyer {96 in the first innings against England at The Oval in Aug 1939}, RJ Christiani {99 in the second innings against England at Bridgetowin in Jan 1948}, FMM Worrell {97 in the first innings against England at Port of Spain in Feb 1948}, JKC Holt {94 vs England in first innings at Kingston in Jan 1954}, CG Greenidge {93 in the first innings against India at Bangalore in Nov 1974}
Tamim Iqbal and Junaid Siddique added 146 runs for the second wicket in Bangladesh’s second innings providing the 25th occasion of a three figure partnership posted by Bangladesh batsmen against various oppositions.

It is interesting to note that the thee figure partnership of 146 runs for the second wicket in this test was the first occasion without involving Habibul Bashar as one of the partners in a second wicket stand of 100 plus runs posted by Bangladesh batsmen against various oppositions. In the other ten occasions of a three figure stand for the second wicket, Habibul Bashar was one of the partners.
Tamim Iqbal and Junaid Siddique added 146 runs for the second wicket in Bangladesh’s second innings providing the third occasion of a three figure partnership against West Indies. The other two occasions are – 121 runs for the second wicket between Habibul Bashar and Javed Omar at Gros Islet in May 2004 and 120 runs for the fourth wicket between Habibul Bashar and Manjurul Islam Rana at Kingston in Jun 2004
Tamim Iqbal and Junaid Siddique added 146 runs for the second wicket in Bangladesh’s second innings providing the second occasion of a three figure partnership for the second wicket against West Indies. The other occasion was at Gros Islet in May 2004, when Habibul Bashar and Javed Omar added 121 runs.
Junaid Siddique’s 78 in the second innings of this test provide the 93rd half century by Bangladesh batsmen against various oppositions. It was the fourth half century for Junaid Siddique and was also his highest score in a test innings. The other three half centuries are – 74 vs New Zealand at Dunedin in Jan 2008, 74 vs South Africa at Dhaka in Feb 2008 and 67 vs South Africa at Centurion in Nov 2008.
CAK Walton and NO Miller scored zeroes in the first innings on their test debut providing the 41st and 42nd instance of West Indies batsman registering zero in the first innings on their test debut.
CAK Walton becomes the 24th wicket keeper batsman to collect the zero in the first innings on his test debut. He is the second West Indies wicket keeper batsman to suffer such an ignominy after IM Barrow who had made zero in the first innings on his test debut against England at Kingston in Apr 1930.
Tamim Iqbal’s 128 in this test represent the 12th occasion of a Bangladesh batsman scoring a hundred in a test innings against various opposition. It also represents the third hundred by Bangladesh batsman against West Indies. The other two are – 113 by Habibul Bashar at Gros Islet in May 2004 and 111 by Mohammad Rafique at Gros Islet in May 2004. Thus Tamim Iqbal’s 128 in this test represent the highest individual score by Bangladesh batsman against West Indies.
Tamim Iqbal registered his first hundred which is also his highest individual innings of his tesr career when he scored 128 in this test. It was an improvement over his previous best of 84 against New Zealand at Dunedin in Jan 2008 which was his test debut. Tamim Iqbal had scored twin half centuries on his test debut – 53 and 84
DJ Sammy captured five for 70 in the first innings of this test providing the 258th occasion of West Indies bowler capturing five or more wickets in an innings. It was the second five wicket haul for DJ Sammy after his 7 for 66 against England at Manchester in Jun 2007, which incidentally was his debut test.
DJ Sammy’ five for 70 in this test was in a losing cause providing the 63rd occasion of West Indian bowler’s five wicket haul going in vain.
Mahmuduallah captured five for 51 in second innings on his test debut. He is third Bangladesh bowler to capture five or more wickets on test debut. Others are – Naimur Rehman {6 for 132 vs India at Dhaka in Nov 2000}, Manjural Islam {6 for 81 vs Zimbabwe at Bulawayo in Apr 2001}.
DE Bernard scored fifty in each innings of this test. He scored 53 and 52 not out in this test providing the 65th occasion of West Indies batsman registering twin half centuries in a test. DE Bernard’s feat also provide the 21st occasion of West Indies batsman’s twin half centuries in a losing cause.
