ICC Champions Trophy Knock Tournament – Statistical Preview
The first edition of ICC Champions Trophy was played under the name Wills International Cup in 1998-99 in Bangladesh. Since then there has been four editions of the Trophy {totaling five} and the ensuing edition to be played in South Africa would be the sixth edition. The particulars of the venue, season and the winner of the trophy are furnished in the following table

347 for 4 in 50.0 overs by New Zealand vs USA at The Oval on 10.09.04 remains the the highest team total posted by a team in the tournament. The lowest completed total in an innings is credited to USA when it was bundled out for 65 by Australia at Southampton on 13.09.04
300 plus runs by teams
There have been four occasions of a team posting total in excess of 300 runs in the tournament which read thus – 316 for 5 in 50.0 overs by South Africa vs Kenya at Col-RPS on 20.09.02, 307 for 8 in 50.0 overs by India vs Australia at Dhaka on 28.10.98 and 302 for 8 in 50.0 overs by Sri Lanka against Bangladesh at Mohali on 07.10.06

Most runs in the tournament
CH Gayle has most aggregate runs in the tournament – He has amassed 695 runs from 14 matches. The following are the other batsmen to have an aggregate of 500 plus runs in the tournament. SC Ganguly of India {665}, SC Chanderpaul of West Indies {587}, JH Kallis of South Africa {564}, R Dravid of India {547} and ST Jayasuriya {502}.
Centurions
As many as 31 hundreds have been scored by 22 batsmen in the championship so far. NJ Astle of New Zealand with his 145 not out against USA at The Oval on 10.09.04 has the honour of registering the highest individual score in the tournament.
The first hundred of the tournament has been scored by AD Campbell of Zimbabwe who scored an exact hundred – 100 against New Zealand at Dhaka on 24.10.90.
Shahariar Nafeez of Bangladesh is credited with scoring the only one-two-three of the tournament, when he made 123 not out against Zimbabwe at Jaipur on 13.10.06.
Nelsons have been scored by two batsmen – Mohd Kaif of India and BC Lara of West Indies. Mohd Kaif registerd 111 not out against Zimbabwe at Col-RPS on 14.09.02 while BC Lara came up with 111 against Kenya at Col-SSC on 17.09.02.
AD Campbell of Zimbabwe remains the only batsman to register the only exact hundred – 100 against New Zealand at Dhaka on 24.10.90.
Out of 31 hundreds registered in the tournament, 13 batsmen have remained not out with hundreds to their credit.
Most hundreds
SC Ganguly of India, CH Gayle of West Indies and HH Gibbs of South Africa share the record of registering most hundreds in the tournament. They have scored three hundreds each. The details are as under

Most hundreds in a single edition
CH Gayle of West Indies remains the only batsman to register three hundreds in a single edition of the tournament. In 2006 edition held in India, he registered three hundreds which read thus – 133* vs South Africa at Jaipur on 02.11.06, 104* vs Bangladesh at Jaipur on 11.10.06 and 101 vs England at Ahmedabad on 28.10.06
Hundreds – Team wise break up
India and West Indies share the record for most hundreds in the tournament with six hundreds each. Sri Lanka comes next with five hundreds. South African batsmen {04 hundreds}, England batsman {03 hundreds}, New Zealand batsmen {02 hundreds}, Pakistan batsmen {02 hundreds}, Zimbabwe batsmen {02 hundreds} and Bangladesh batsman {one hundred} share the 31 hundreds scored in the tournament

Dhaka edition in 1998 witnessed four hundreds, Nairobi edition in 2000 witnessed six hundreds, Sri Lanka edition in 2002 witnessed ten hundreds, England edition in 2004 witnessed four hundreds and Indian edition in 2006 witnessed seven hundreds.

Hundreds by Wicket keeper batsmen
A Flower of Zimbabwe remains the only wicket keeper batsman to register a hundred in the tournament. He scored 145 against India at Colombo-RPS on 14.09.02
Ninety nine by batsman in the tournament
CH Gayle of West Indies remains the only batsman to be dismissed for 99 in the tournament. He was dismissed for 99 against Bangladesh at Southampton on 15.09.04

CH Gayle {101} and DJ Bravo {112*} scored hundreds against England at Ahmedabad on 28.10.06 which went in vain. This is the only occasion in the tournament when hundreds by two batsmen from the same side went in vain.
West Indies has witnessed most hundreds in a losing cause – three. PA Wallace’s 103 against South Africa at Dhaka on 01.11.98, CH Gayle’s 101 against England at Ahmedabad and DJ Bravo’s 112* against England at Ahmedabad
Captain’s hundreds in vain
AD Campbell of Zimbabwe {100 vs New Zealand at Dhaka on 24.10.98} and SC Ganguly of India {117 vs New Zealand at Nairbi-Gymkhana on 15.10.00} are the only two captains who have witnessed their hundreds going in vain. AD Campbell’s hundred represent the first ever hundred of the tournament.
Wicket keeper batsman’s hundreds in vain
A Flower of Zimbabwe remains the only wicket keeper batsman to witness his hundred going in vain. He scored 145 against India at Colombo-RPS on 14.09.02. A Flower remains the only wicket keeper batsman to register a hundred in the tournament
Most boundary fours in an innings
There are six batsmen who have scored fifteen or more boundary fours in an innings. V Sehwag of India scored 21 boundary fours in his innings of 126 against England at Col-RPS on 22.09.02 which is a record for most boundary fours in an innings in the tournament. Three batsmen have scored hundreds in 150 plus deliveries – A Flower of Zimbabwe took 164 deliveries for his 145 vs India at Col-RPS on 14.09.02, Shahriar Nafeez of Bangladesh took 161 deliveries for his 123 not out vs Zimbabwe at Jaipur on 13.10.06 and NJ Astle of New Zealand took 151 deliveries of his 145 not out vs USA at The Oval on 10.09.04. A Flower holds the record for most deliveries – 151 – while scoring a hundred.
Half Centuries
As many as 124 half centuries have been registered by 80 batsmen in the tournament. S Chanderpaul of West Indies, R Dravid of India and DR Martyn of Australia share the record for most half centuries in the tournament. All the three batsmen have registered five half centuries.
