The Wisden Trophy – Highest individual score by a number eleven batsman in a test innings – TL Best of West Indies rewrites the record
TL Best rewrote the record for the highest individual score by a batsman batting at number eleven in a test innings when he scored 95 in the third and final test between England and West Indies at Birmingham which concluded yesterday in a tame draw, He went past Zaheer Khan’s 75 in the test between India and Bangladesh at Dhaka in Dec 2004.
The following table shows the list of thirteen batsmen who have scored a fifty while batting at number eleven in a test innings arranged in the descending order of runs scored.

TL Best with his 95 became the second West Indies batsman to score a fifty while batting at number eleven in a test innings. WW Hall was the other batsman to perform such a feat when he made 50 not out against India at Trinidad in Apr 1962. It is interesting to note that after exactly 50 years, TL Best emulated WW Hall in performing this feat

TL Best became the third batsman to score a fifty while batting at number eleven in a test innings against England. The previous best was 62 not out by AEE Vogler of South Africa at Cape Town in June 2012. All the three occasions are listed below

TL Best became the second batsman to score a fifty while batting at number eleven in a test innings in a test match in English soil. JA Snow was the other batsman to perform such a feat when he scored 59 not out against England at The Oval in Aug 1966.

TL Best and JA Snow are the only two batsman to score a fifty while batting at number eleven in the test series between England and West Indies and TL Best’s 95 is the best by a batsman in this series. It is interesting to note that the scores of 95 by TL Best and 59 by JA Snow are in the reverse order when they are written.
