R Ashwin with his 13 for 140 in the recently concluded test against New Zealand became the fifth bowler to capture ten or more wickets on Indian test grounds hosting their first test. His figures are the best among the five bowlers. The previous best was by Visiting Pakistan bowler Fazal Mahmood who had returned with figures of 12 for 094 at Lucknow University Ground in Oct 1952. Thus it took 64 years for another bowler to rewrite  the record held by Fazal Mahmood

A Kumble had returned with figures of 11 for 128 in Jan 1994 at Lucknow – KD Singh Babu Stadium against Sri Lanka. Thus R Ashwin’s 13 for 140 at Indore against New Zealand represent the best bowling figures by an Indian bowler in this category of statistics
