R Ashwin  of India now holds the world record for most wickets by a spin bowler who opened the bowling in the annals of test cricket. His  lonely wicket in Australia’s second innings – that of GJ Maxwell caught by Vijay for 02 was his 94th wicket when he has shared the new ball as a spin bowler. He went past H Trumble of Australia who had captured 93 wickets as a spin bowler while sharing the  new ball. Father Hanif faced 556 deliveries whole making 187 not out against England at Lord’s in  Jul 2967, while Son Shoaib emulated his father by facing 516 deliveries for his 163 against New Zealand at Wellington in Feb 1989 – 22 years later

SPD Smith scored 178 not out in the first innings and CA Pujara scored 202 in the second  innings of the test at Ranchi to provide the second occasion of a batsman batting at number three scoring centuries in the first and second innings of a test in India-Australia test series.

The first such occasion was witnessed when RT Ponting scored 242 in the first innings and R Dravid scored 233 in the second innings of the test at Adelaide in Dec 2003. Both RT Ponting and R Dravid batted at number three.
