Stats highlights of the Ranchi Test at the end of the third day

At the end of the third day, the following milestones have been achieved from my research “Approaching milestones ahead of Ranchi Test between India and Australia”

M Vijay would become the 29th Indian cricket to appear in 50 plus tests, if he is picked upto play the test at Ranchi. He has played 49 tests so far.  He would become the 269th cricketer to appear in fifty plus test in the annals of test cricket.

 

M Vijay played the test and became the 29th Indian cricketer to appear in 50 plus test. He also became the 269th cricketer to play 50 plus tests in the annals of test cricket

 

Ranchi would become the 26th ground in India to host a test and also would become 110th ground in the annals of test cricket to host a test.

V Kohli would be leading India in his 26th test at Ranchi. He would go past SR Tendulkar and R Dravid who led India in 25 tests. Other Indian captains who have led India in 26 or more tests are – MS Dhoni {60}, SC Ganguly {49}, M Azharuddin {47}, SM Gavaskar {47}, MAK Pataudi {40} and N Kapil Dev {34}

 

V Kohli led India in his 26th test at Ranchi. He went past SR Tendulkar and R Dravid who led India in 25 tests. Other Indian captains who have led India in 26 or more tests are – MS Dhoni {60}, SC Ganguly {49}, M Azharuddin {47}, SM Gavaskar {47}, MAK Pataudi {40} and N Kapil Dev {34}

 

SPD Smith has an aggregate of 4924 runs prior to the start of the Ranchi test. He needs 76 more runs for his 5000 run aggregate. If he gets them, he would then become the 20th Australian batsman to  score 5000 plus runs. He also would become the 89th batsman in the annals of test cricket to score 5000 plus runs.

 

SPD Smith’s aggregate at the end of the third day’s play read 5042. He became the 20th Australian batsman to score 5000 plus runs and also became the 89th batsman in in the annals of test cricket to score 5000 plus runs.

 

DA Warner has an aggregate of 986 runs against India. He needs 14 more runs for his 1000 runs. If he gets it, he would then become the 12th Australian batsman to total 1000 plus runs against India. The following table lists the entire twelve batsman with DA Warner’s 988 runs.

M Vijay was dismissed stumped for 82 in India’s first innings against Australia to provide the  seventh occasion of an Indian opening batsman dismissed stumped after scoring a fifty in a test innings. He became the sixth Indian batsman to be dismissed stumped after scoring a fifty and the first  Indian opening batsman to be dismissed stumped after scoring a fifty against Australia  in a test innings. CA  Pujara’s romance with India’s newest test grounds continues at Ranchi. He has scored 130 not out at the end of the third day of the test. India blooded four new test venues this season  {fifth will be at Dharamsala where the next test would be played between India and Australia}. CA Pujara has scored a century on each of the four grounds – Indore, Rajkot, Vishakapatnam and Ranchi.

 

He scored 101 not out  against New Zealand at Indore in Oct 2016, 124 against England at Rajkot in Nov 2016, 119 against England at Vishakapatnam in Nov 2016 and now at Ranchi he has scored 130 not  out at the end of the third day of the test.

 

CA Pujara has braced, perhaps an unparalleled feat in the history of test cricket. His performance at India’s newest test venues are furnished below

R Aswhin and Harbhajan Singh share the second the joint second place with 25 five wicket hauls in the  list of Indian bowlers who have captured most five wicket hauls. A Kumble leads the table with 35 such hauls. One  more  five  wicket  haul  for R Ashwin  would place him the  second in the list with 26 five wicket hauls.

 

R Ashwin and H Trumble share the record for most wickets when a spin bowler has shared the new ball. Both the bowlers have an aggregate of 93 wickets. One more wicket for R Ashwin in this category of statistics would fetch him a world record. Seven more wickets to him would make him the first bowler to capture 100 wickets as a spin bowler opening the bowling. This is a statistics which has never happened in the annals of test cricket. No spin bowler who has opened the bowling has ever had an aggregate of century of wickets.

 

R Ashwin has an aggregate of 44 wickets against Australia at home. Six more wickets would fetch him 50 wickets. If he gets them, he would then become the third Indian bowler to capture 50 plus wickets against Australia at home. Others are – Harbhajan Singh {86} and A Kumble {62}. R Ashwin would become the 17th bowler to capture 50 plus wickets against India in the annals of test cricket.

 

NM Lyon has an aggregate of 28 wickets against India in India. Two more wickets would fetch him 30 wickets. If he gets them, then he would become the seventh Australian bowler to capture 30 plus wickets against India in India. Others are – R Benuad {52}, GD McKenzie {34}, SK Warne {34}, JN Gillespie {33}, GD McGrath {33} and AK Davidson {30}

 

NM Lyon has an aggregate of 28 wickets against India in India. Two more wickets would fetch him 30 wickets. If he gets them, then he would become the third Australian spin bowler to capture 30 plus wickets against India in India. Others are – R Benuad {52} and SK Warne {34}

V Kohli would go past MAK Pataudi and M Azharuddin who have  scored four hundreds on home soil on his way to the third position.

If he gets them, he would then become the eighth Australian bowler to capture 250 plus wickets.
