Milestone three figure partnerships at home for Australia and India

Milestone three figure partnerships at home for Australia and India

Australia and India posted the milestone partnerships at Brisbane and India respectively which none of the statisticians noticed across the globe and I also noticed a bit late.  Australia posted its 500th three figure partnership at home while India posted its 300th three figure partnership at home.  However I chose to post this prior to the start of the two team’s next test which starts today. Australia take on England at Adelaide today – a day night test – starting from 9.00 AM IST and India clash with Sri Lanka at Delhi which starts at 9.00 AM. This article is posted at 8.25 AM prior to the start time of these two tests.

DA Warner and CT Bancroft added 173 runs in an unfinished partnership for the first wicket against England at Brisbane provided the  500th three figure partnership at home for Australia

M Vijay and CA Pujara’s 209 runs partnership for the second wicket against Sri Lanka at Nagpur provided the 300th three figure partnership for India

Australia became the second team in the annals of test cricket to post 500 plus three figure partnerships at home after England.  England has posted 541 three figure partnerships at home. India became the third team in the history of test cricket to post 300 plus three figure partnerships at home. India posted two more three figure partnerships at Nagpur and at the end of the test it had posted a total of 302 three figure partnerships

The following are the progressive milestones of the three figure partnerships of these two teams at home in terms of 100 partnerships

Approaching milestones ahead of the Delhi test between India and Sri Lanka

V Kohli has an aggregate of 2887 runs while leading India in tests. He needs 124 more runs for his 3000 runs. If he  scores them, then he would become the third Indian captain to score 3000 plus runs. Others are MS Dhoni {3454} and SM Gavaskar {3449}.

V Kohli has led India in eight tests against Sri Lanka prior to the start of this test. Delhi test will be his ninth. He would own the record for most caps by an Indian captain against Sri Lanka. He would be going past  M Azharuddin who has led India in eight tests against Sri Lanka.

V Kohli has led in eight tests against Sri Lanka prior to the start of this test.  Delh test will be his eighth test. He would then become the third captain to lead a team in nine or most tests against Sri Lanka. Others are – Misbah-ul-Huq {13} and SP Fleming {11}

WP Saha has effected 17 dismissals against Sri Lanka prior to the start of this test. He needs one more dismissal for 18 dismissals. If he takes it then he would become the second Indian wicket keeper to pouch 15 or more dismissals against Sri Lanka. MS Dhoni has pouched 21 catches against Sri Lanka.

India has posted 61 three figure partnerships for various wickets against Sri Lanka. One more such partnership would give India 62 three figure partnerships for various wickets. If India posts one more three figure partnerships, it would share the record for posting most three figure partnerships against Sri Lanka with Pakistan. Pakistan posted 62 three figure partnerships for various wickets against Sri Lanka.

India has posted 61 three figure partnerships for various wickets against Sri Lanka. Two more such partnership would give India 63 three figure partnerships for various wickets. If India posts two more three figure partnerships, it would own the record for posting most three figure partnerships against Sri Lanka. India would go part Pakistan which  has posted 62 three figure partnerships for various wickets against Sri Lanka.

AD Mathews has scored 4802 runs prior to the start of this test. He needs 198 more runs for his 5000 runs. If he scores them, then he would become the ninth Sri Lankan batsman to score 5000 plus test runs. The following table lists the Sri Lankan batsmen who have scored 5000 plus runs
